How long does it take you to do the shopping now?

3 hours!
I left home at 9.30 this morning, queued for 30 mins, shopped, came home, wiped/unwrapped packaging before putting stuff away, showered and put clothes in washing machine!

Ages, 2 hours on Saturday!
Long queues everywhere.

HaudMaDug · 09/04/2020 13:06

Still not managed to get a shopping done yet.
Went to supermarket on Monday for the 1st time since 4th March and stood for approx 3/4 hour in queue but due to having Raynauds and standing in a cold shady area for too long I had to give up before getting inside and came home as I was just too cold to function.
No one to shop for me and I'm not seen as vulnerable in anyway so not entitled to any online delivery. I'm flipping starving.

timetest · 09/04/2020 13:09

From queueing to finishing putting washed food away, three and a half hours. I aim to buy a fortnights food in one go.

hopeishere · 09/04/2020 13:14

I don't bother with the washing and showering and it still took me about two hours!!

I'm trying to work out a better way. I went to Sainsbury's and was overwhelmed so think I need to avoid there. Spent a fortune.

Blastandbollocks · 09/04/2020 13:15

Do it on way home from work (5 mins from work to shop). Queuing is variable (anything between 10 mins and 30 mins). 30-45 mins shop, and then drive home (20 mins). So, on a good day about an hour, on a bad day about 1 hour 45 mins.

Could be worse really.

Mintjulia · 09/04/2020 13:19

My weekly shop used to take 40 mins. Last Friday I joined the Tesco queue at 8.50am and left the shop at 10.10.

So not too bad. I can make the food last maybe 12 days, so averaged out, it's not much more.

MrsJonesAndMe · 09/04/2020 13:20

An hour from car, back to car. I wouldn't include the travelling and unpacking in the count - maybe I should.

The first time I went to Tesco, it took an hour to get in and another hour to get my food, pay and then back in the queue for the pharmacy!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/04/2020 13:20

I was out of the car for just over an hour yesterday. However the drive only took 5 minutes each way, instead of the usual 10, due to lack of traffic. And no going for a wander around the other shops or library either.

Unpacking taking longer as I meal plan and make notes of dates as I put stuff away.

SpudsAreLife84 · 09/04/2020 13:21

haud, go on a weekend! I work Monday to Friday so go on a sat afternoon, and it is dead! I think because the vast majority are not going out to work they go more in the week. 3 consecutive weekends and not had to queue for more than 15 mins, 1 of them I went straight in.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/04/2020 13:22

I did ponder in the queue yesterday if you could contest parking fines caused by long queues.

Doje · 09/04/2020 13:23

Two hours. 20 minute wait, 1 hour in the shop, then 40 minutes dropping off bits I'd got for a couple of vulnerable people I know, with a bit of a chat (at a distance, obvs!)

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 09/04/2020 13:26

No longer than usual, there's never any queue to get in, whizz round, shelves fairly well stocked, use the smart shop so don't need to unload (or talk to anyone) and out the door. It's much better than normally because there's far fewer people in there!

fruitpastille · 09/04/2020 13:27

Round here if you go later in the evening there is no queue.

BiggerBoat1 · 09/04/2020 13:29

Who cares? There's fuck all else to do Grin

gillyginger · 09/04/2020 13:32

Just wondering is Milton OK to wipe packaging, just standing in queue now

Titsywoo · 09/04/2020 13:34

I'd say around 2 hours where it used to take 45 mins

morecoffeerequired · 09/04/2020 13:35

It is taking twice as long in the queue to get in the supermarket as I actually spend in there, based on yesterday's shop.

Having driven past a couple of supermarkets on the way home from work this morning, I'm glad I'm not shopping today.

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 09/04/2020 13:38

gillyginger I use Milton and a jcloth.

Not long at all as I am on the shielded list so not going shopping! Grin

DH goes now and fannies around, takes him about an hour in the shop, not much queuing here.

HaudMaDug · 09/04/2020 13:50

@SpudsAreLife84.
Will give that a try. Been working the last few weekends to keep myself busy assuming the supermarket would be too busy.Blush
I've long since cleared the Brexit/snowed in cupboard.

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 09/04/2020 14:03

About 2h30 and I'm not even wiping because we've already had the virus. Family of 4. I used to shop online but there's no slots at the moment and I think I should probably leave them for other people anyway.

SpudsAreLife84 · 09/04/2020 14:03

Honestly give it a try, much much quieter Smile

Umnoway · 09/04/2020 14:14

Took DH almost three hours yesterday. He had to queue for ages to get in then queue for ages at the checkout too. He stocked up for a fortnight to save going back.

MegaClutterSlut · 09/04/2020 16:47

Not long. I go to asda about 7.15pm (they shut at 8). If there is a queue to get in, it's literally a few minutes. Not really any queues to pay as I use scan and go but normal checkouts are quite busy. Then get out just before 8.

On the other hand I've tried tesco at 9PM and there was a big queue and busy inside too

Tayt · 09/04/2020 16:48

Half an hour in store
I don’t wipe down the stuff before it goes in the cupboard, I just wash my hands after touching the packaging when cooking
