Any medical people or similar women?

Every single month around a week before my period I get both thrush symptoms and UTI symptoms. 90% of the time, they come to nothing and by the time my period arrives it goes. The odd occasion the thrush symptoms have turned into full blown thrush.

This has been going on for around 4-5 months. I had a doctors appt booked (that took me 4 weeks to book in advance) that has obviously now been cancelled and they won't rebook anything until coronavirus has ended. Has anyone got any ideas? Any experience, or advice?

Thanks!

I used to get this. Do you have a sweet tooth generally?
I got rid of it by following a diet completely free of sugar and fungus for around 6 months. It’s a commitment, but it worked.

I think if you google it’s called the candida diet

Oh godddd I do! I've tried to cut down since lockdown due to the fact I don't want to put on weight but I do. I shall have a look at the candida diet, thank you. How did you find it? Can you replace it with natural sugars, fruit etc? Are you still doing it now?

Most likely hormonal, but are you treating your partner when you get the thrush also? Any deficiencies like anaemia, Low Vit D, thyroid or diabetic?

rhowton · 09/04/2020 11:39

I get this EVERY month and it's so annoying! My doctor has prescribed me thrush cream, oral tablet and pessery monthly. I take it 5 days before my period is due and it helps enormously. I get thrush a ridiculous amount of time, and nothing helps, including diet, sadly.

rhowton · 09/04/2020 11:39

Also, I have thyroid problems so that doesn't help with thrush.

PinkDaffodil2 · 09/04/2020 11:41

Try using a thrush treatment when the symptoms start?

Hopefulmidwife · 09/04/2020 11:41

If I have thrush then we both treat ourselves. But the week before it just seems like mild symptoms, not actual thrush. Obviously we don't have sex during that time as it's uncomfortable anyway; then it's gone by my period. Very bizarre. No deficiencies as per my last blood test around a year ago. Maybe I should start with diet and cut down naughty snacks.

In my personal experience, cutting down on chocolate/cake did bugger all. I had to go hardcore and cut out ALL forms of sugar (including honey, agave, fruit etc), and anything containing yeast (breads etc), or fungus (mushrooms). Apparently these are what the candida feed on.

It was bloody tough. The withdrawal was AWFUL and I felt like shit for the first week (lethargic and like I had a bad head cold), but the end result was worth it as I said goodbye to the constant thrush-not-thrush and UTI symptoms.

kittykat818 · 06/12/2022 22:50

@rhowton do you still take it every month?

@BestestBrownies how long did you do the diet for, do you still stick to it?
