Wow - it only seems like yesterday that 'that' photo opportunity of them being seen together in public. They look very content in each other's company. No agenda to this post - just happy for them. And the Jack Russells are adorable!

Not a royalist /Diana fan but wonder when, if ever, the official govt legal advice on the legitimacy of his second marriage will be revealed? Wonder why it was sealed for so long?

Noodlenosefraggle · 10/04/2020 00:48

It would be a mighty shocking development if all second marriages are invalid! Everyone is equal under the law songs is free to marry. In any case, Diana was dead when he remarried so why wouldn't it be legitimate?

Bombaybunty · 10/04/2020 14:42

Please explain why their marriage isn't legitimate?

It’s one of the plot points of The Handmaid’s Tale, in fact. One of the first diktats of a totalitarian theocracy seizing power.

In the Crown Princess Margaret couldn't marry Peter Townsend as Marriage was for life even though he was divorced. The Queen was defender of the Faith so they had to follow the church's teachings. The rules seem to have changed now.

Noodlenosefraggle · 11/04/2020 08:54

Isn't that why they had a civil marriage blessed by the church? I think the basis of the 'invalid marriage' stories are Diana worshippers who dont want Camilla to be Queen but the basis of an hereditary monarchy is that it's tough titty if you dont like the kings wife. They are Queen and the next in line is king.

Housewife2010 · 11/04/2020 09:31

Margaret could have married Peter Townsend but she would have had to give up her royal status and live abroad. She wasn't prepared to do that.

HennyPenny4 · 11/04/2020 16:37

Will Camilla be queen or will she be the Duchess of somewhere like Philip is Duke of Ed.

Noodlenosefraggle · 11/04/2020 17:06

The wife of the King is Queen. Phil was D of E because King outranks Queen. There is a rumour that he was only made a Prince so he couldn't be forced to testify at Stephen Ward's trial. She is Princess of Wales but doesnt use it. I think she said she won't use Queen but she will be Queen.

newtb · 11/04/2020 17:09

It was never clear whether or not the civil marriage act from 1837(?) included members of the Royal family as they were expected to marry in church

Fixed that for you.

She’ll “be” Queen (consort), and I think she’ll probably use that title when the time comes.

For a long time they insisted that she’ll be “Princess Consort” but that assertion has been removed from the royal website now, apparently.
