Advice for a novice gardener

When I say novice I mean a total non gardener.

I’m looking for some bedding plants suitable for pots in a mostly shaded yard- North facing so gets some afternoon sun.

Really just looking to brighten the place up, I love wildflowers- could I get some wildflower seed suitable for pots?

Initially need some shrubs/bedding plants for some colour and then a spare couple of pots for seeds maybe?

Wildflowers are harder to grow than you'd think. Many of them need a poor/disturbed soil, or a particular mix of grasses. If it was me I'd get some easy annuals like Begonia, Impatiens, Pelagoriums, Surfinia, Salvia and Geraniums (although they like full sun) etc. with Lobelia round the edges and start there, they are all pretty robust and forgiving. For shrubs you'll need quite big/deep pots. A Buddleia would grow in your ear thought, so maybe a couple of them? They'll all need lots of watering, depending on the weather.

Lavaterra flower for longer than buddleia . Maybe look at that as an alternative. Lavender is pretty resilient as well as nice smelling, bee friendly and pretty. English lavender not French.

Mostly shaded - how about some hostas and astilbe? Foxgloves? Hostas need protection though; slugs fucking LOVE them.

Thank you all- off to google.

I do like foxgloves- my dad is a keen gardener and recognise those. I like things that spread outBlush that’s my best description
