Chop through the roots of this houseplant to create 2 plants?

I have this house plant with purple underleaves that I love. It just took off after buying last year and I repotted to a larger pot and it just keeps throwing out leaves.

Do you think I can chop through the roots and get 2 plants out of it? I'm not very green fingered and don't know what it is but there seem to be several stems rather than just one.

I don't want to kill it though 😂

I can't seem to upload a pic for some reason...getting told 'access denied'

I would think you probably can, but it depends very much on what it is, can you find the name of it or a picture of it online that you could link to?

Ok, I'm hoping this will work, trying to attach photos now....thanks!

If you have a good look at the base of the plant, you may find that it has plantlets which are attached to the main plant but have their own roots. You could probably detach those quite easily.

O ok that sounds like it could be good ! Might save me getting the saw out and destroying roots. I will have a look and see if that's possible. Many thanks for the advice both!

Ooh, I want to do this with a Boston fern, any advice? I believe it can be done but not sure how?

@Wetcarparkrain If you know the name of your plant then you can search on "propagation. It sounds like a Boston Fern is pretty easy to propagate....

"Like most perennials, Boston ferns can be propagated by dividing the original plant. Spread the leaves of your fern and you will see multiple crowns, similar to a clump of daisies or other perennial flowers. Remove the plant from its pot, divide in quarters or eighths with a sharp knife and replant the divisions."
