Free Prescriptions Delivery in Scotland?

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 11:17

I have prescription medicines to collect each month. I use a boots pharmacy in town but as I am at an increased risk from the coronavirus I was hoping to avoid having to go into an actual shop if possible but I do need my medications.

I have checked boots and the other big names and they either no not deliver to Scotland or they charge for prescriptions that would be free in Scotland, NI and Wales.

I am technically in the support group of ESA although I don’t receive any benefits due to my husband being just over the threshold (although he still working has just has his Pay cut by his bosses due to the crisis so I should check again). Basically I have no income and can’t afford these charges.

Does anyone know a company that does online prescriptions that delivers to Scotland free and without English prescriptions charges. I am hoping to avoid taking up other resources by doing this.

Also feel bad about abandoning the shop I use as they are lovely but feel it would be best at this time.

Have you spoken to the pharmacy? My local one turned up on my doorstep last night as one of the employees walks past my house and “it keeps more people at home”. I didn’t even ask, but if you do they might be able to help!

iVampire · 08/04/2020 11:21

Could you see if any of the volunteer groups which have sprung up would be able to send someone to pick up your prescription and bring it to you?

britnay · 08/04/2020 11:38

How do you get your groceries? If someone gets them for you then they could collect your prescription for you too.

Lloyd’s pharmacy deliver in Scotland as do Dickie’s, but as this point you will probably have a hard time getting added. They are having challenges with staff illness and driver availability, so better to contact your local volunteers; or can you DH pick them up if he’s out for work?

TheCanyon · 08/04/2020 11:52

Our lloyds aren't delivering as such, but staff are delivering some on the way home if you ask them. Boots have the netball team and several members of the resilience group collecting and delivering prescriptions.

What area are you in? There's bound to be a covid group set up to help

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 12:45

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will look in to lloyds. I don't want to take up volunteer resources. I still get sainsburys slots at present but that could change I think.

My regular pharmacy has reduced opening hours at the moment so its tricky to get down outside working houra. I can go if need be just hoped there would be an alternative!

Have you got a local volunteer group? There is a group in my part of Glasgow which is organising volunteers to pick up prescriptions and deliver to vulnerable groups.

Individual pharmacies might also be able to deliver but there is no national scheme I know of.

TitianaTitsling · 08/04/2020 12:57

Could your husband pick it up on his way to/from work? If you're on a monthly collection hopefully his work would give him leeway in his day to do it?

perniciousdot · 08/04/2020 12:59

Your shielding letter will have the information you need regarding how to get support. If you are not sheilding you can go to the pharmacy as normal, just observe social distancing like everyone else. Or get your husband to do it.

chipsandpeas · 08/04/2020 13:02

call round all your local pharmacys, theres a few independant ones near me who are still delivering prescriptions

YerAWizardHarry · 08/04/2020 13:09

Definitely check the small independents my mum is a dispenser and lots of them are delivering (also in Scotland)

WeAllHaveWings · 08/04/2020 13:19

We are in Scotland and my mum has always had her prescriptions delivered for free, until recently when Boots started charging.

My dsis contacted a small local independent pharmacy and they now deliver for free in 7 day blister packs for her.

TARSCOUT · 08/04/2020 13:24

All.pharmacies in my area deliver
Boots, Lloyd's,Well, L&G. In saying that I don't think any of them.are taking on new customers. I am.confused what do you mean by free prescriptions and not english charges?

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 13:49

I'm in scotland and here nobody pays for prescriptions at any age or means. In england they still charge for prescriptions at the pharmacy not sure how much. As most of the pharmacies that do the delivery (through the post) are in England they don't apply the Scottish prescription fee waiver for some reason.

I know that individual pharmacies do deliveries for the housebound and elderly I was specifically asking about postal deliveries of medications. I should have made that clearer in my OP.

Getoutofbed25 · 08/04/2020 13:52

I’m in Scotland, today Boots delivered my mums prescription to her house. If you call ahead and say you are isolating they should deliver. Our GP sends the prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. Just call around someone will deliver

ParkheadParadise · 08/04/2020 13:55

My local independent chemist delivered my prescription yesterday.
I didn't think it was ready as I'd only ordered it on Friday from my GP.
They only deliver to the elderly usually.
I'm in Glasgow.

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 14:10

I'll give my usual pharmacy a call and see what they say. I'm not elderly or housebound so not sure. Don't want to impose on resources! Seems like posted medication isn't much of a thing in scotland.

Don't want to impose on resources

Then you or your husband should just collect it.

PineappleDanish · 08/04/2020 18:49

But @Portia77 if you're in a vulnerable group and not supposed to be leaving at all, that's exactly the sort of group which volunteers are there for!!

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 20:56

@perniciousdot

Your tone is rather harsh in both your posts. I was very specifically looking for a postal service. As it is my usual chemist is going to sent the driver round with my medication until the pandemic eases.

@PineappleDanish thank you, my usual chemist is going to deliver to me.

OP posts:
ParkheadParadise · 08/04/2020 20:59

That's good news @Portia77

perniciousdot · 08/04/2020 21:12

Your tone is rather harsh in both your posts.

You think suggesting your sheilding letter would have details of how to get support is harsh? Or was it that if you are not sheilding you can continue as normal that was harsh? Or the suggesting that your husband collect it for you?

I'm sorry you think that was harsh, I was just being practical.

I was very specifically looking for a postal service.

You did clarify that after my initial post, your pp talked about volunteers so I was not to know you were asking about postal services.

As it is my usual chemist is going to sent the driver round with my medication until the pandemic eases.

I'm pleased. We can barely manage to get ours to fill a prescription just now! DD waited nearly 2 hours to hand in DH's script the other day.

Portia77 · 08/04/2020 21:39

@perniciousdot Sorry about my last post. It's been a stessful day and it was my mistake, I took what you said wrong. I hope you'll accept my apology and that your prescription situation improves soon.
