I ate too much cake

I don't eat sweet things usually - not even fruit. Don't have a sweet tooth at all and since going vegan last year the very odd bit of confectionery I did sometimes fancy isn't an option any more. I don't dislike the taste or anything I just never seem to fancy sweets and will always go for something really salty. Today out of bordem I made a VAST cake for everyone in the accommodation I'm in - frosting, toppings the lot. Quite proud of it actually. Cut a slice not taking into account the depth of the thing and slice ended up being quite big - enormous in fact. Horsed it all down anyway because I was hungry.

It's now about an hour and a half later and I feel like hell. Am actually in bed. Sort of zingy but also really lazy and grouchy too. Heart felt a bit fluttery earlier. Kind of like a low level hangover. Do other people get this and how do I make it go away?? I feel like a kid after a birthday party about to puke up all the party rings.

May post picture of cake minus the slice to illustrate the scale of the issue also to show off cake Grin

Sounds like a sugar spike! You could go for a walk and then have a cup of tea

(looks forward to pics)

Having never suffered from ‘too much cake’ before I’m not sure I can be of any help. But I would like a photo please.

turnandfacethenamechange · 08/04/2020 09:34

In my defense, someone else has come and taken a bit since me. I did not eat a quarter on my own Grin The round things are miniature Oreos.

Impressive! Yes it is huge.

You'll have to wait for the sugar comedown to pass :)

turnandfacethenamechange · 08/04/2020 10:10

maybe wine would help

(8 hours ahead of UK btw!) Grin

You’re a vegan and you don’t eat fruit?? You have to lie down after a slice of cake??
Do you think you have orthorexia?
Serious question OP- do you feel guilty for eating the cake?

turnandfacethenamechange · 08/04/2020 10:18

You’re a vegan and you don’t eat fruit

No, not really. I think there's maybe some dried apricots in my granola?? I just find it all a bit sticky and acidic. I eat a lot of vegetables though. And tofu and beans and things.

Do you think you have orthorexia?

I had two naan breads covered in peanut butter for breakfast yesterday because I couldn't find anything else - so I'm going to go with no Grin

Serious question OP- do you feel guilty for eating the cake?

No I just felt really ill! It's passed a bit now but felt really groggy and disgusting. Have been googling sugar "crashes" and sounds fairly legit - blood sugar going haywire

Have a cup of pepper mint tea. I always have it in the house for times when I've over indulged.

If you don't have pepper mint tea, anything minty will work.

Bluesheep8 · 08/04/2020 11:45

Anything minty? Don't drink mouthwash op! GrinThat cake looks amazing btw

JingsMahBucket · 08/04/2020 12:19

You totally had a sugar crash. Try to eat a regular meal full of protein and lower in carbs to correct the situation. That should even out out your blood sugar. So, a stir fry with plenty of tofu and low carb veg but little to no rice to accompany it. T2 diabetic here. :)

turnandfacethenamechange · 08/04/2020 13:00

You all read my mind! I had two cups of peppermint and a tofu peanut noodle stir-fry with mixed veggies. Feel better now. Weirdly though....want more cake?!

JingsMahBucket · 08/04/2020 13:10

Don’t do it!! That’s the sugar altering your candida/gut flora balance which will lead to you craving more sugar to feed it! Back away slowly from that (delicious) cake.

turnandfacethenamechange · 08/04/2020 13:12

I'm starting to think this cake is dangerous. Other residents all report brief spell of delicious elation followed by appalling sugar coma. Maybe I should have put less frosting on Grin

JingsMahBucket · 08/04/2020 13:14

Hahah, very likely! Can you slice it up and freeze them? That’ll take the immediate temptation away.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2020 13:16

Eat a modest slice and then do some vigorous exercise so it gets used as fuel!

Lllot5 · 08/04/2020 13:23

I’ve just seen the pic. Looks fab. Just the right size to me. If you are struggling with it ( I understand some people do although I have never personally suffered from this malaise)
Feel free to send it to me.

SweetieP1e · 08/04/2020 14:32

No such thing as too much cake in this householdWink

LilacTree1 · 08/04/2020 14:34

OP that looks fab! I wish you lived in my block!

It’s a sugar spike, you’ll feel better soon.

LilacTree1 · 08/04/2020 14:37

Just leaving this here 😂

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 14:39

If it makes you feel better op in my house we would class that as two slices so you've just had a double helping....Smile

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 14:40

Looks a gorgeous cake too
