Scenes in films which irrationally annoy you

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (original version)
Every single time I've watched the scene where the golden ticket winners are touring the factory and enter the area where everything is edible, I get genuinely irritated that none of them actually get stuck in! None of them really try anything! They just dip their finger in something and keep walking! Surely you'd take full advantage and pig out? Or at least sample everything?!

Emmerdale is THE WORST for empty takeaway cups (you can hear the emptiness as they plonk it down) and also suitcases/bags.

TheSandman · 08/04/2020 11:00

It really annoys me when suitcases are obviously empty too. Just put a couple of bloody jumpers in or something, it would look so much better.

And heavy sacks of wheat (or whatever) tossed around like they were full of kapok. Which they are. I once worked as an extra on a TV show having to unload a cart of grain in the 'middle ages'. The sacks were lighter than pillows. The AD wrangling the extras seemed a little confused when I asked whether we should 'act' them being heavy - ie slow down and not toss the buggers around. He seemed confused. The thought had obviously never occurred to him that these things were actually supposed to be heavy.

@goose1964 yes! Always the woman on top. Hate this.

My one is having to watch someone choke the chicken. The noise. The facial expressions. Urgh, fucking hate it.

YY to never saying goodbye properly at the end of phone calls! (Because we all end phone conversations by hanging up without saying goodbye.)
And never having to clarify details of meetings, er, minor things like time and place ... .
And sitcoms like Friends where two characters talk - supposedly privately - aside from the others. They can hear you ; you are in the same room fhs!

RedRec · 08/04/2020 11:38

The scene in Truly, Madly, Deeply where the Juliet Stephenson and Michael Maloney characters are hopping and talking on the Embankment. Utterly cringe. And he was such a wet, unappealing character.

Can't even remember much else about the film apart from that the wonderful Alan Rickman was in it.

Slychomping · 08/04/2020 11:38

Smallnmighty re: Charlie and the chocolate Factory; have you read the original book? They are all in bed together because they are extremely poor! It's not a kinky choice or anything ...Grin

Slychomping · 08/04/2020 11:40

YY Redrec The other suitor did in NO way live up to Alan Rickman.

billyt · 08/04/2020 11:46

When something is falling down, be it a building, a spaceship, etc. The people always run away in line with the falling object. Run to the fecking sides you cretins!!

TheSandman · 08/04/2020 12:03

That scene in every Star Trek movie where people talk technogibberish at each other VERY FAST pull out hitherto-fore unmentioned tech from somewhere, recalibrate it, and solve all their problems with a single bound - apart from the obligatory, physics defying fist fight between the hero and the villain.

Quarantini · 08/04/2020 12:28

Love Actually, where Natalie meets the prime minister for the first time:

"Fank you sir. I did ave a premonition I was gunna fuck up on my first day. Oh, piss it".

🤮

I feel compelled to watch this film every Christmas, but there are several CRINGE moments - Kiera Knightley getting married where the band start appearing throughout the church and again, Kiera Knightly with batty eyelashes "I look quite pretty"...."they're all of me" Bleurghhh! However, the first one I have to fast forward.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 08/04/2020 12:54

Oh also, Saturday Night Fever - I watched it when I was quite young and it always horrified me that Annette is getting sexually assaulted on the back seat while Tony and his mate completely ignore whats going on in the front.

OP posts:
Bluewavescrashing · 08/04/2020 13:02

Love actually when Keira knightly watches the video that the best man shot and she goes "oh I actually look quite pretty"
.., fuck...off! Irritates the life out of me!

God, yes. Fuck off and fuck off some more.

Seriously79 · 08/04/2020 13:05

Any movie when, in the morning they wake up kiss and start having sex - ummm morning breath anyone? It's grim! 🤢

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 08/04/2020 13:15

Oh in one of the Daniel Craig Bond films - Quantum of Solace I think - He walks across a compound with the woman who's managed to get kidnapped with him* and she is wearing a dress with a sort of cloud pattern on it. The front is perfectly cut - 2 clouds across the front. Gorgeous. They cut to a back shot and there's the back of the dress. One side of the zip, perfectly centred cloud. The other side, there's half a cloud, it's cut in half by the zip. It gives me the fucking rage!!!!! Are you telling me that for the amount of money you spent on this film, you couldn't get a dress that was properly fucking cut?!!!

*If I've got the name of the film wrong, it's because I can't bear to put the DVD in the player because of that sodding dress.

GreenFairy246 · 08/04/2020 13:19

School of Rock... any of it.. but especially the bits where Jack Black gets overexcited and shouts "ROCK" whilst doing the sign of the devil... I can't watch it. Calm the fuck down dude!

And I second the Keira Knightley "I look quite pretty..." Grrrrrrr

SwerfandTurf · 08/04/2020 13:39

The scene in Skyfall where Bond breaks into the home of a woman he’s met once (who expressed no sexual interest in him), who is currently being held prisoner as a sexual slave, has been held prisoner as a sex slave since she was a child, and has been raped probably thousands of times. Bond spots her in the shower and decides to just randomly strip his clothes off and pounce on her. It’s quite literally rape.

Later on he participates in a sadistic game to torture her to death, even though he knows military helicopters are going to be arriving an second and he could easily have just stalled the villain and saved her life.

And the scene where the capture a guy who has already infiltrated their IT network, and lock him up in a cell that’s sealed only with one digital lock controlled by the same IT system they know he can easily hack into. If one person had suggested “hey why don’t we just stick my bike padlock on the cell door to be on the safe side” the villain’s entire plan would have been foiled.

That movie is such trash.

Mimilamore · 08/04/2020 14:13

Nobody ever eats a meal or finishes a drink, two sips of a beer and off they go.....

BlackNoir · 08/04/2020 14:24

Yes, yes to Tom Cruises tongue in Top Gun. Rewatched it recently after not seeing it since I was a teenager in the 80s and it was already really annoying me. However, that scene made me physically nauseous and I had to switch it off. If I was her I would have vomited straight into his mouth.

hotcrossbun4321 · 08/04/2020 15:37

All of the bits in Love Actually with the 2 porn actors are cringe.

I hate the bit in The Holiday where Kate Winslet jumps around and does air guitar to the Jet song.

It annoys me when women come into their house wearing sky high heels and don’t take them off, instead they walk round in them and start stripping off as they go

PloptheBarnOwl · 08/04/2020 16:15

Another one for Four Weddings and a Funeral...! When Andie MacDowell comes to Hugh Grant's wedding to Duckface, and tells him at the door she is now single! If I had been Duckface, it wouldn't be Hugh Grant I was punching!

Also, surely the worst behaviour in Love Actually is from Andrew Lincoln's character- what a horrible underhand calculated way to stab your best friend in the back!

SarahTancredi · 08/04/2020 16:36

Any movie when, in the morning they wake up kiss and start having sex - ummm morning breath anyone? It's grim

Ha ha yes this makes me so mad.

And also any scene in any movie where they have apparently been working for 36 hours straight and then have sex without so much of a change if clothes or shower. Do people really work all day and all might for days on end whilst wearing lacy matching underwear?

Oh and can I add any movie or tv show where everyone manages to go to school, work, socialise, study, save the world etc and not collapse from exhaustion after 2 days. When they fuck do they ever sleep

Paulmaicock · 08/04/2020 17:07

Any film, though happens a lot in Bond films, where someone gets a blow to the back of the head, they are knocked out, they come round some time later, rub their head and they are fine.

Note, if you are knocked out longer than a few minutes, some combination of brain damage, coma, cranial bleeding, and amnesia is going to greet you when you wake up — if you wake up.

MrsGrindah · 08/04/2020 17:12

This is really specific ( and I need to get a life) ..but there’s a scene in Friends when Ross entertains Charlie , Joey and Rachel. Charlies has a handbag that is so small and thin there couldn’t be anything in it...can’t believe wardrobe / director etc. or even the actress herself didn’t spot that.Annoys me every time!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 08/04/2020 17:24

Alien. When the ship wakes up, and the computer screens are projected in perfect focus onto the chairs. Also, when the facehugger goes through John Hurt's faceplate, his head should have melted. Also Sigourney Weaver's Gratuitous Underwear.

Mum2threepinkies · 08/04/2020 17:31

Really?! I've never noticed that? I'm going to look for that now! 😆 X
