Scenes in films which irrationally annoy you

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (original version)
Every single time I've watched the scene where the golden ticket winners are touring the factory and enter the area where everything is edible, I get genuinely irritated that none of them actually get stuck in! None of them really try anything! They just dip their finger in something and keep walking! Surely you'd take full advantage and pig out? Or at least sample everything?!

what’s the Four Weddings class subplot?! I need to know now!

Me too. They’re all too fucking rich for their own good.

Which leads to another gripe (I’m looking at you FRIENDS) where they’re supposed to be poor so that we identify with them but they actually live in big fuck off apartments or houses which in reality they could never afford.

Pretty in Pink annoys me so much because anybody with even a couple of brain cells would choose Duckie.

The thing that annoys me in The Breakfast Club is the makeover. Why the hell shouldn't she stay goth?

And in Shrek it makes me FURIOUS that she has to turn into an ogre. Would be much better if she stayed as a princess.

Most of Dirty Dancing I have to watch through my fingers.

Martine Thing in Love Actually.

She belongs to the Cho Chang and Ginny Weasley school of acting ffs.

Dirty Dancing- same as Grease I suppose in that looking back it's creep central and Daddy should have punched Johnny in the face for sliming round his 16 year old daughter.

Sparklingbrook · 07/04/2020 22:11

Love him.

In Mannequin - she looks NOTHING like the Mannequin. They didn't even get her hair colour right. It irritates me every time.

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 07/04/2020 22:13

Elsie I hate the bit in Deathly Hallows 2 where he breaks the Elder Wand. It doesn't happen in the book and it grates on me.

Nineteen Years Later is cringe as well, both book and film. I understand why it's there but I still get the impression JKR never intended for it to be published. (Although see the War & Peace epilogue to see how much better writers can also come a cropper on these things.Grin)

And also Harry Potter: HE WAS THEIR FRIEND! in Prisoner of Azkaban.

Aposterhasnoname · 07/04/2020 22:13

In Star Wars, return of the Jedi I think, the one with the Ewoks. Han catches Leah chatting to Luke about being his sister and asks what they were talking about, she says she can’t tell him, he get jealous and she runs away crying.

At the end of the film he again sees them chatting and asks “you love him” she shrugs and says yes like it’s obvious because he’s her brother.

ITS NOT FUCKING OBVIOUS TO HAN BECAUSE YOU REFUSED TO TELL HIM HE’S YOUR BROTHER YOU MUPPET.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/04/2020 22:14

I love the Harry and Hermione dancing scene. The bit I hate is Julie W killing Bellatrix - face and voice just seem all wrong to me.

Notmyrealname855 · 07/04/2020 22:14

Sorry for adding tv but... I love curb your enthusiasm but the main character is 72 and all his girlfriends are maybe early 40s. Just such a reach (and if I haven’t missed it yet, not mentioned on the show much?)

Hated all of Wonder Woman, it was truly 0/5 for me and wondered (haha) what all the fuss was about. Cringed or yawned at nearly all of it

Thingscanonlygetwetter · 07/04/2020 22:19

The ending in Titanic-just give him the necklace.
Also the ending in prisoners , don’t want to give it away as I do like the film but hate the way it ends

Wibblewobble03 · 07/04/2020 22:21

@Mum2threepinkies I'm not sure if you have seen Toy Story 3 but Sid features in the film as an adult and we see what he ended up doing :)

Holothane · 07/04/2020 22:21

The stupid cafe scene when Harry met sally, never seen it nor intend too, that scene is enough🤮

NoImNotEntertained · 07/04/2020 22:23

Any scene when the characters wake up first thing in the morning and sigh heavily in each other's faces and then start snogging. 😷

TitianaTitsling · 07/04/2020 22:25

Bloody hate the Andie McDowall in 4 weddings #teamduckface

ArkAtEee · 07/04/2020 22:26

That bit in 'The Holiday' where they say Cary Grant was born in Surrey. No, he was born in Bristol Hmm

springydaff · 07/04/2020 22:27

About A Boy ending, where its all hunky dory and it all works out and everyone's happy and everyone, wierdo or not, joins together for a Happy Christmas.

More sentimental Richard Curtis Shit.

Plus the "daft hippy" quote.

God, I hate Richard Curtis.

Clawdy · 07/04/2020 22:29

People who don't like the end of Grease sometimes miss the point - they both try to change for each other. Sandie dons the black leather, and Danny is wearing a geeky sporty jacket, which gets shocked looks from his mates. Yes, I know he whips it off pretty quickly!

springydaff · 07/04/2020 22:29

Male sentimentality, regardless of reality, in too many films /dramas.

Gives me the RAGE.

NoImNotEntertained · 07/04/2020 22:30

Ooh yes, also the bit in 'The Holiday' when Cameron Diaz drives into the village like a lunatic and then wanders around the food shop swigging red wine from the bottle! I mean, presumably she's still got to drive back again!?

JollyAndBright · 07/04/2020 22:31

My biggest bugbear in movies and TV is when a couple kiss (usually for the first time) and then immediately start ripping each other’s clothes off and having sex.
I mean the don’t even snog for a while or have a bit of a grope it’s just first kiss and then straight at it.... it really irritates me.

springydaff · 07/04/2020 22:33

Me too, Jolly Bright!

It's never happened to me irl. Never. Regarding how hot.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/04/2020 22:33

Another Tom Cruise one - the sex scene in Rock of Ages makes me heave. I love the film and its cheese, but can't bear that bit.

Bubblewings · 07/04/2020 22:38

The scene where the boy confesses to his step-dad (Liam Neeson) that he is in love with the girl - “the total agony of being in love” etc makes my toes curl. He sounds like he’s part of the English gentry in a Jane Austin film adaptation. Just spotted the post above about “The Holiday” - Jude Law sounds like it too - I mean no one talks like that ffs!

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 07/04/2020 22:38

About a Boy isn’t a Richard Curtis movie springy it just has Hugh Grant in it Grin
