She's a young 14.

Nah.. even the sex scene if you can call it that is very chaste and covered up...

Now am singing 'cant fight the moonlight....' in my head;

JKScot4 · 07/04/2020 19:25

I’m surprised she’s asking, most 14 yr olds watch what they like.

sorryiasked · 07/04/2020 19:25

No it's fine, go for it

Teakind · 07/04/2020 19:25

I remember getting it on VHS when I was 14 : )

SelfIsolationMeansMorePeppa · 07/04/2020 19:25

No I wouldn't say many dodgy bits, I was probably around 14 when I first watched it too. I still love it (and yep I'm singing the songs now too!)

🎶You can try to resist, try to hide from my kisssss 🎶 DH has gone into the garden to avoid my singing.... (It's been a long week at work already, and I'm tired and stressed so liking this wee distraction!)

HumourMePlease · 07/04/2020 19:31

We're having a movie night- I'm in no doubt she wouldn't ask if it was at a friends'!

I had forgotten Can't Fight the Moonlight was in this! I think I can still go word for word though Grin

There are so many more mainstream films with way more violence / sexuality etc. Coyote ugly is actually a great film with some surprisingly deep scenes. Enjoy 😀

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 07/04/2020 19:34

I used to love that film when I was that age. Isn’t it rated a 12? Unless she has SEN, I find it a very odd question to ask.

shirleyschmidt · 07/04/2020 19:36

It's perfect for 14! I feel like watching it myself, would be nice distraction from the constant corona talk Smile

inflam · 07/04/2020 19:38

It's a 12, what is worrying you about your 14 year old seeing a 12 film?

HumourMePlease · 07/04/2020 19:41

I know, but she's a young 14, I can't really remember the film and I find sometimes 12s vary.

Thanks all!

Aw I watched this over and over when I was 14!

msmith501 · 07/04/2020 19:47

Just a thought OP - how do young 14s become less young 14s? I'm thinking some small exposure to interesting and thought provoking films will in fact help. Otherwise she may run the risk (and not her fault) of being a young 16 and then a young 18.

amusedbush · 07/04/2020 19:47

I was about that age when I first watched it, it’s great! As a pp said, there is one very tame sexy bit but that’s it.

I had the soundtrack on CD Grin

IMDB (international movie database) has a parents' guide section for all movies and TV series.

It will list all sex, violence, drugs, swearing, fearful scenes etc allowing you to make an informed choice on any movie. ie a woman is seen from behind, part of her bare buttock is seen, a man is shot on screen but then cuts away quickly.

I like the specifics of it rather than a general overview rating of 15 or whatever.
