I’m an idiot. Fallen for a text scam. What do I need to do?

Got an text looking like it was from o2 claiming that my payment didn’t go through. My card runs out in May so I stupidly thought it was genuine. I clicked on the link, entered my password, name and address and was about to enter my bank card details when I realised what it was. I’m such an idiot. So what do I need to do to fix this? Just change my password? Anything else?

Tell the bank right away, then follow their instructions.

Oh, and tell O2 as well.

Start changing all your passwords if they are shared

milienhaus · 07/04/2020 19:01

I got that too and thought it was very convincing! Sorry for the lack of advice, just wanted to say I don’t think you’re an idiot and I nearly clicked it too.

if you have online banking, transfer your money to any other account if you can.

TickledOnion · 07/04/2020 19:12

I didn’t give them my card details so is that all necessary?

Yes just incase it monitors your keystrokes.
Personally I’d wipe your phone and reload everything

safariboot · 07/04/2020 19:27

Change your password ASAP from a device you trust, preferably not your phone.

If you use the same password on any other websites or services, change it there too. (And the irritation of changing it on a dozen places should teach you not to reuse passwords!)

Please don’t feel an idiot OP, they are professional criminals and incredibly convincing.
Have you informed O2 that this is happening ?
