Is Everyone Still Celebrating Easter?

BrandyandBabycham · 07/04/2020 16:07

Usually I love Easter but I can’t summon much enthusiasm for it this year. I’ve bought DD’s chocolate stuff already ( demolished my £3 bag of mini eggs a few days ago) & will get DH a big bar of choc. No plans for a roast lamb lunch. DD wants an egg hunt so will pick up some foil wrapped eggs in Aldi when I do my main shop on Sat.

Yes I'll be watching the services on telly on good Friday and Easter Sunday as I can't go to church

Megan2018 · 07/04/2020 16:09

Yes! More than normal- going to dig out the billion decorations MIL has sent from Germany that we never use as something to do! Smile

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 07/04/2020 16:09

I’m more excited about Easter than ever. I want a big lovely lazy lunch, and an Easter egg hunt. I have always felt Easter meant hope, and we need it more than ever right now Flowers

I had quite forgotten about Easter and DS mentioned they other day that we’d already had it this year! It’s a weird time right now!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 07/04/2020 16:10

Not in a religious way but we're still doing an egg hunt in the house and garden with our children. We've also bought eggs for ourselves. No special meal though but we don't do that anyway.

Namesgonenow · 07/04/2020 16:10

More than usual. Filled egg hunt, leg of lamb in freezer waiting, huge mahoosive egg, walk in woods, movies

Xiaoxiong · 07/04/2020 16:12

Yes, I listened to the Palm Sunday service on R4 last weekend (better hymns than usual as they used a CD recorded by the choir Grin) and we've talked about the Easter story with the kids, spring celebrations in different religions and traditions, etc.

I find that celebrations, traditions and events marking the turning of the seasons are more important now than ever.

Lindy2 · 07/04/2020 16:13

I'd already bought some Easter gifts for my children before the lockdown started. I was starting to worry about how everything was going so did a rapid Easter egg shop a little while ago, also encourage by the eggs being half price that weekend in Tesco.

I can't say I'm particularly enthusiastic but my children are really looking forward to it. For their sakes and to maintain some normality we will have our usual garden Easter egg hunt and a nice lunch together.

I had been planning to invite family over and do a lovely Easter buffet. I will really miss them not being here but will smile through it for my children. They still need nice things to happen.

Buyitinbamboo · 07/04/2020 16:13

Yes, we didn't get to celebrate Christmas last year as 4 weeks old DS was in ICU. Very much looking forward to making a big deal out of Easter. Going to decorate and everything

EsmeeMerlin · 07/04/2020 16:14

Yes, my two children will enjoy it and it gives us something positive to do. This week is proving tougher on us not being able to see family and friends.

We have some Easter crafts, eggs and a Easter Lego set. We also have some Easter themed books to read. Glad I picked up the crafts and Lego last year in the sale.

My dh is a essential worker and has been working more hours than usual so it will also be nice he is home on Easter Sunday. We plan to rent the new Trolls film and try to enjoy the day.

Devlesko · 07/04/2020 16:15

I'm not particularly religious tbh, and personally think it's twattish to celebrate a Christian festival, when you aren't.
just my opinion though

WaynettaIsMyStyleIcon · 07/04/2020 16:15

Nope, really can’t see the point. I’ve found out today that I am not needed at work, which I am quite disappointed about. At least at work I’d be doing something useful to pass the time on.

RhymingRabbit3 · 07/04/2020 16:17

We dont really celebrate Easter. We are actually doing more this year than normal because it gives an excuse to do some fun things with DD aged 3.
We have made Easter cards to drop off to her friends who live on our street, we are planning an Easter Egg hunt in the garden, I am hoping to get a chicken on our shopping this week and do a roast dinner. I also have some craft stuff so we will do some sort of easter themed craft and make easter nests from shredded wheat and melted chocolate.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/04/2020 16:18

It's one of the DC's birthdays so it's going to be a complete eggstravaganza Grin

I bought in the eggs (and presents) a few weeks back. Since he discovered months ago that his birthday fell at Easter, he's been doubly excited (eggcited? Wink ) and determined that he would have 10 eggs (most will be creme eggs) We do a hunt in the garden anyway.

No church. While our church is doing digital services, I'd miss the atmosphere and community that being in church brings. DS will probably request pizza for dinner.

allaboardthesinkingship · 07/04/2020 16:19

Me and the husband will be having a cheese/wine and port afternoon. Wel have an Easter egg hunt because we're big kids but I jsut want a nice fun day!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 07/04/2020 16:23

it's crept up on me a little as we were supposed to be on holiday in a non-Easter celebrating country Sad. I'll have a rummage in the supermarket at the weekend to see if I can get a leg of lamb and so Easter eggs (obvs will be shopping for essentials at the time, so no need for wagging fingers).

Pyjamaface · 07/04/2020 16:25

Yes. Just the 3 of us instead of the 12+ but will have egg sprints (flat garden with no hiding spaces), a nice lunch of whatever I get when I go shopping and video chat with the people we're normally with.
Will be odd not fighting with people over our very competitive adult egg hunt tho Grin

mooboy · 07/04/2020 16:42

Yes - the dcs are getting chocolate eggs as normal.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 07/04/2020 16:46

I'll fling the kids their eggs at breakfast as usual. It's not a big deal in this house 🤷‍♀️

zigaziga · 07/04/2020 16:46

Will hide eggs in the garden for a hunt like I did last year.

Tana433 · 07/04/2020 17:16

The usual bacon butties for breakfast. Chocolate eggs during the day and then a roast at night but chicken rather than lamb.
Its important to keep things as much the same as we can. It is for me anyway as my anxiety threatens to overwhelm at least once a day at the moment.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 07/04/2020 20:10

Will be just us, but will definitely do the hot cross buns, roast lamb, lots of crafts and an egg hunt. I feel like we need it more than ever.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 07/04/2020 20:15

It will be a little quieter but we will try

So we should have had ds1 and partner, dd and maybe her boyfriend, ds2 and my dad, big lunch, lots of games During the day and then big high tea and probably the evening in the pub at the bottom of the garden

We would have decorated the house the weekend just gone and taken the decs down the weekend following easter

As it is we won’t have ds1 and partner or dds boyfriend or my dad...we will not be doing a big high tea and obviously everything will just be, well...quieter without a houseful

Plus we won’t be putting the decs up til Maundy Thursday cos we forgot this weekend, and i NEVER forget usually

letsgomaths · 08/04/2020 21:17

Egg hunt, which will be in our usual tricky fashion. The eggs are hidden in plain sight (but you're blindfolded Easter Sad). Finding eggs has to be done by feeling about, and possibly some hints from the others! @Pyjamaface Egg sprints sounds fun!

Bouncingbomb · 08/04/2020 21:20

Eating plenty of eggs, shoulder of lamb on Sunday - just me and DD though so very different!!
