In the back of cupboard.

Would you use it ?

Absolutely, as long as there is no creepy crawlies in it.

BaronessBomburst · 07/04/2020 14:45

I would.
I'd check there was nothing living in it first.

Aethelthryth · 07/04/2020 14:45

It'll be fine. My lentils from 2009 were very tasty

BiddyPop · 07/04/2020 14:47

Absolutely

wildthingsinthenight · 07/04/2020 14:47

Totally would. Enjoy!

Rice improves with age. As long as it hasn’t got even a little bit damp and it doesn’t smell mildewy I’d go for it.

Shosha1 · 07/04/2020 14:50

No creepiest nor damp. Chicken a d pea risotto for supper, it is then

Or send it my way. I love risotto.

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/04/2020 14:53

Rice gets better the older it is. The expiry is just with regards to the creepy crawlies (they hatch from eggs already in the rice). Can be fixed tipping the rice onto a plate, picking out the insects, and then storing it into a glass jar

Lllot5 · 07/04/2020 15:04

I wouldn’t. I’m pretty relaxed about dates but not 6 years.

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 07/04/2020 15:12

Traditionally, you wash rice 7 times, to get rid of the starch. (Obviously, not pudding or risotto ric!) The washing would also get rid of grit & bugs, too...

YakkityYakYakYak · 07/04/2020 19:30

I really wouldn’t. Rice can harbour some nasty bacteria at the best of times. And this isn’t a great time to be accidentally making yourself very ill.

I’d be relaxed about a year out of date maybe, but not 6 years

Bringer · 07/04/2020 19:33

It'll be absolutely fine. Rice is basically inert.

Coron · 08/04/2020 21:16

Sorry... rice can have bugs and insects??? How have I not heard of this. What if it’s in sats rice??? Confused

Coron · 08/04/2020 21:17

Dry rice that should say

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 08/04/2020 21:22

Dry rice is fine. Check for damp smells and insects though. Bacteria is only a problem in reheating.

AudTheDeepMinded · 08/04/2020 21:24

We had rice pudding from a packet that expired in 2015 last week, it was great! We are all still alive!

Shosha1 · 09/04/2020 08:18

Used and delicious. A d neither if us is dead 😄

6 years is fine. Basmati has to be aged for at least a year, and the really good stuff is 3 years old.
