I'd like him to do something new that will engage his brain or body, but that he'll enjoy. And not just killing it on PS games Grin

Ideas I've had so far are -

Learning a new language - maybe Makaton or one with a different alphabet, like, say, Greek.

I'd love him to learn to bake cakes, treats for us all and I think he'd be on for that - but where to get the flour?!? Sadly, he wouldn't be as keen to learn new meals and take over feeding us (although I do insist he learn to make one new meal every school holiday).

Practising to try to do the splits or a difficult yoga position - while he's still young and flexible Grin

Any ideas? Is there anything you can recommend that your children have tried, or that you are doing? I'd like to have a few suggestions to make, so he can choose.

I've been struggling to think of things, because he'll have to do them at home and it depends on whether we can get any equipment needed to do it.

Mine has taken to joining some conspiracy theory forums/discord groups and argue with them using actual science.

Not sure this is quite what I envisioned but as they are going to be studying physics and chemistry at A Level I guess it's a good way to remember what they've learned.

Apparently physics is a pseudo science and chemistry isn't real according to some people on these groups. It all sounds very exciting! Grin

He's decided learning to bake would be a rewarding skill - as we have very little flour and are having trouble getting any more, I'm off to google flourless desserts. Looks like we'll be gaining a few pounds soon Grin

I made him download the driving theory app and he's already had a few goes at it - so that was a good one.

i am tempted to recommend conspiracy sites, he's also going to study physics Grin

I second housekeeping. My kids (10 &15) have enrolled on the mums survival course wich includes :

Basic cooking & meal planning & budgeting
Cleaning incl. washing up & hoovering
Washing & Ironing
Self care like daily exercise
Getting up and be dressed by 10 o' clock
Bed made room clean- (usually done every 2-3 days...)

We all take turns so kids can see us pulling our weight. Most tasks only take up to half hour each- so plenty of screen time left!
