Anyone else dreading return working from home and juggling childcare?

It seems everyone else is doing marvellous fun things with their children - lots of baking/crafts/board games etc.
It’s ok for parents who can’t be at work right now and have the time with their children. Not so easy when you have to work at home, partner is out at work and you joust end up letting kids have endless screen time so you can get work done.
Feel like a crap parent and a crap employee. Really fed up with it all now and still got weeks of this ahead.

Me too. Im almost wishing to be furloughed.

Topsy44 · 05/04/2020 18:18

Me too. I am a lone parent and really wondering how I can manage this until September!

Another one here, literally trying to stay on top of everything and feel like I’m just letting everyone down, but I am one person and there’s a limit to what I can do.

There’s been an announcement very recently to say if you are currently wfh but finding it impossible due to childcare (or lack of) you can request to be furloughed. Look up pregnant then screwed on Instagram.

And in answer to your post I feel so guilty and have ended up in tears about how rubbish my parenting is over the past week.

I'm relieved I don't have loads of work on because DD watches waaaaay too much tv.

Not letting her watch tv until she's done some school work means she's watching a bit less luckily.

I'm fed up of people talking about 'home schooling', it's just 'let's hope we get through the day without someone crying' schooling in this house!

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 05/04/2020 18:44

yup, i hear ya, working from home is so hard with a child at home, I can't imagine having to do this until September, it's so stressful.

Lone parent here. Dad not on the scene at all. WFH. Key worker. 17 month old. I feel for you OP. Do you get a break in the evenings?

GoldenOmber · 05/04/2020 19:15

Me. Oh God so tired.

SoloMummy · 05/04/2020 19:29

It is hard. I have found organisation is key for me. I have planned the activities, have a range that require minimal input from me.
I add in a "fun" activity at the end. Then it's free play, garden time and sometimes tv/tablet.
Then when I am not working, I do some focused teaching.
I have also started work to give me more time at the end of the day. Could you try that?

Moominmummy12 · 05/04/2020 20:59

Hi.
Glad it’s not only me. Yes planning to start work earlier and work more in evenings. Utter nightmare.
