Please help;how does Tesco's home delivery actually get decanted if self isolating

Posting to see if anyone has experience of this:
If the delivery is normally unpacked in one's kitchen, but one is self isolating. If one leaves sufficient empty cartons and carriers on the step and a note for the driver explaining, will they decant it there instead?
It's a sheltered porch, the note explains one is self -isolating and to please leave the order, accepted as it stands.
Includes the name and address and the order number.
Can't get information from Tesco's it's not and option on the phone enquiry system.
Grateful thanks,if anyone has experience or suggestions.

It gets delivered in bags, why would they spend extra time decanting it for you? Confused

whatsleep · 05/04/2020 15:24

They are delivering in bags now. Then unload bags onto your doorstep then after they’ve gone you can take them in. I wondered the same before my delivery arrived.

Stet · 05/04/2020 15:25

Yep, bagged now.

karala · 05/04/2020 15:30

georgie clearly the OP didn't know that - no need to be snippy

GreenTulips · 05/04/2020 15:34

I think it’s obvious drivers don’t have time to swan around unpacking the shopping into other bags.

The delivery drivers are in short supply and you can’t get a slot for love nor money.

serialtester · 05/04/2020 15:39

They left mine in the crates on the doorstep.

TheRuralJuror · 05/04/2020 15:43

They will deliver in carrier bags and leave them in the porch. I think they need to see someone through the window to know that someone is collecting.

Pascha · 05/04/2020 16:26

They should ring you a few minutes before to check if you are self isolating. The groceries are all bagged and left on your doorstep and then they back away nice and fast and wave at you as you open the door.

Thank you for your very helpful replies.
It all sounds great and very straightforward.
As said at the outset "if the delivery is normally unpacked in one's kitchen'. I now know this is not what happens.I was recalling a previous post where a Mumsnetter was annoyed at her DH for permitting the items to be randomly deposited because he didn't know it no longer came in bags.It obviously does come in bags, just not poly bags !
Thanks everyone who posted with information. It's very reassuring.

It's in bags. They leave it on your doorstep and stand back as you take it. They sign for it for you. They won't take subs that you don't want back, so you have to take them but you can ring and get a refund.

Stet · 05/04/2020 18:31

It comes in plastic bags. Our Tesco shops have all been bags for life weirdly, not sure if that's just our store! And they've unloaded everything first then knocked on door and retreated to the end of the drive, waited till we open the door and then leave.

FromTheAllotment · 05/04/2020 18:55

If you’re lucky you also get a quick chat through the kitchen window, made my bloody day to talk to someone Grin

FredaFox · 05/04/2020 18:58

My mums are in bags for life and put on the steps

JigsawsAreInPieces · 05/04/2020 19:16

Our order last week came in bags for life. This week’s came in the ordinary carrier bags. I wondered if the driver knew something we didn't Confused Sad

With the current situation, deliveries are coming in plastic bags.

I’ve had deliveries from Asda and Morrisons; both were delivered in regular plastic bags, not bags for life.

EggysMom · 05/04/2020 19:35

My Tesco drivers would normally carry the crates through to my kitchen and help to unload the contents onto the worktop.

Now they put the bags on my doorstep, knock, and retreat to a safe distance. They ask me to check the list for what hasn't been supplied and give the bags a quick glance-over. They then sign off the delivery and go on their way ... Except that they seem to want to chat, despite the pressure on them! They always ask how we are doing, and tell me tales of being sent in random directions where deliveries aren't in a sensible order, etc.

Snugglepumpkin · 05/04/2020 19:39

They put the bags outside your door, knock or ring the bell, then back off further away than 2m.
My driver disappears the second I open the door so I get no chance to reject the substitutions I was sent that were actually no good.

At least I got some shopping though.

@Snugglepumpkin They’re not accepting substitution rejections at the door at the moment. You just have to ask for a refund; there’s no other option.

LastTrainEast · 05/04/2020 23:09

GreenTulips when this started Tesco WERE filling bags at the doorstep for self-isolating people as they didn't want infected people touching the crates. Then they changed their mind and put it all in bags.
