Out of date trifle- would you?

Just found a Bird's trifle mix at the back of the kitchen cupboard. DH loves them- childhood memories. Best before date... July 2015 Blush Would you make it?! I'm sure it won't kill us, but not sure I want to waste milk if it is inedible!

Ew no

BarbaraofSeville · 05/04/2020 11:29

If it helps, I made custard with birds custard powder that expired in 2016 last week. Tasted absolutely fine.

With a box trifle, I'd be more concerned about the sponges being past their best. Maybe test a bit of these first before committing all the milk?

TheMandalorian · 05/04/2020 11:31

No.
Unless you need to lose weight quickly.

couchlover · 05/04/2020 11:43

I probably would.

Reallybadidea · 05/04/2020 11:45

It's best before, not use by. I totally would unless it looked weird once I'd opened it.

amusedbush · 05/04/2020 11:50

I’d open it and have a poke about. It’s probably fine.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/04/2020 11:51

I would.
Found some jelly in the back of my cupboard that expired in 2017. It was fine.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/04/2020 12:37

So we've confirmation that the custard and jelly are probably fine. Anyone want to admit to a well out of date pack of dream topping to complete all the trifle components?

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2020 12:43

July 19 - maybe, July 15 - no way.

Nix32 · 05/04/2020 13:05

Have used 2014 dream topping twice in the last fortnight - all fine.
