Wooden outdoor playhouse- straight on grass?

Has anyone got a wooden outdoor playhouse in the garden built straight onto the grass? Google suggests it’s ok to do this if the wood is treated and the bottoms moisture proofed. What did you use to treat the wood? How has it lasted, i.e. has the wood gotten damp/mouldy/rotten? Is it better to put loose paving slabs down over the grass and build playhouse on top of those? Or another idea? Thanks

We put slabs down first, we were told the floor would rot otherwise.

Thanks @Chocolate1984 I already have the flatplack playhouse ready to build for DD’s birthday surprise while in lockdown (party cancelled etc) so was hoping I’d be able to just get on with it, as I don’t know where I’d be able to get paving slabs from at the moment Sad

I agree with Chocolate. You need to raise it up above the ground otherwise it will rot really fast.

Wickes are delivering

Also try gumtree. Some one might have some you could just pick up from outside

LittleRa · 05/04/2020 08:43

I wonder if I could get slabs delivered at the moment. Feel bad as not exactly essential though.

Oh cross post with the above about wickes and gumtree, thank you!

Will the slabs be ok just loose placed on the grass? They don’t need like cement or anything to hold them in place?

We dug ours in to the level of grass .

@dottycat123 Thanks for the reply, but sorry could you explain what you mean? Sorry, total beginner here!

It sounds as though Dotty dug a shallow hole to depth of the slabs so when they were put in, they were the same level as the grass. Then the house sits on top and there is no step up so to speak.

LittleRa · 05/04/2020 09:47

Ah thanks @Ribenaberriesgowoo82 Hmm so I also need a shovel ConfusedGrin

If you're in Colchester, I can lend you ours. It will be suitably sanitised and in front of the garage doors for your collection. Grin

LittleRa · 05/04/2020 10:30

Ha ha ah thanks for the offer but would be much too long of a non-essential journey Grin

As well as putting it on slabs, bearers are advisable as the slabs get damp and rot the base.

Groovee · 05/04/2020 10:38

We were told by the company we bought the playhouse from to put slabs underneath. Got a gardener to do it. Playhouse is nearly 15 years and still standing.

LittleRa · 05/04/2020 10:46

Would anyone who has one on slabs be willing to post a photo? @Groovee @dottycat123 @Chocolate1984 ?
