Films DH and I can watch with our 7 year old and actually enjoy

Suggestions please? We’ve already seen very Disney money but I’m looking for something a little more grown up.

Something we can enjoy rather than just tolerate. She’s quite mature for her age so could cope with some mild peril.

TIA

Toy Story 1 with is packed with humour. Brilliant film.

Divebar · 04/04/2020 18:44

We’ve recently watched and enjoyed Jumanji ( both versions actually but preferred the one with the Rock). Night at the Museum, The Water Horse, Jurassic Park ( some sequel... it was ok ) and Wonder Woman ( surprisingly good).. my DD is nearly 8. All of those were on Netflix but there are no doubt a gazillion others just as good.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/04/2020 18:45

Newer Jumanji films
Inside Out
Jurassic Park
The Grinch (Jim Carey version)
Sister Act

All of the Studio Ghibli films are currently on Netflix.. my Cousin Totoro is lovely. I also just watched the first eight Star Wars films with my DS. Much better than I remembered!

BadgertheBodger · 04/04/2020 18:47

Lego movies! Lego Batman is particularly good, lots of jokes for the adults

Wineislifex · 04/04/2020 18:47

Shrek?

SeaViewBliss · 04/04/2020 18:47

Chronicles of Narnia
Wallace & Grommit
ET
The Wizard of Oz
Annie

Musicals in general are great but only if the adults don’t hate them!

Wineislifex · 04/04/2020 18:48

The parent trap

Beingyellow · 04/04/2020 18:48

Jumanji, hocus pocus, ghostbusters, the mask, the new sonic movie. I have a 7 year old who loved all of those but he does love scaryish stuff. A lot of 12A movies aren't too bad tbh. We look up films on IMDB and use the 'parent guide'.

LittleRa · 04/04/2020 18:49

Honey I Shrunk the Kid and the sequels. Parent Trap. Look Who’s Talking. Cool Runnings. Jumanji. Princess Bride. Homeward Bound. The Mighty Ducks. Mary Poppins Returns. Dr Doolittle (new one just been out with Robert Downey Jr).

Beingyellow · 04/04/2020 18:49

Also...if you like musicals they can be quite good....lots of choice there. Hairspray and greatest showman my son loves.

Startoftheyear2020 · 04/04/2020 18:50

If you can access YouTube you can watch Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat - it's fab!

Wait4nothing · 04/04/2020 18:50

Four kids and it (new on sky) is decent
We enjoyed the Paddington bear films. Dd3 also likes jumanji and E.T.

Obviouspretzel · 04/04/2020 18:51

I was laughing my head off at the Paddington films.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 04/04/2020 18:51

Megamind
Secret Life of Pets
Zootropolis
The Iron Giant (definitely makes you cry though, be warned!)
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

PurpleCrazyHorse · 04/04/2020 18:52

Home Alone

Isadora2007 · 04/04/2020 18:55

The avengers films

user1493413286 · 04/04/2020 18:56

I introduced DSD to quite a few of my own childhood films that DH and I were happy to watch including Mrs doubtfire, Matilda, the goonies, look who’s talking, cool runnings
Harry Potter films are also popular in our house.
We also enjoyed the despicable me films and all of toy story

tararabumdeay · 04/04/2020 18:58

'Big', especially as it follows the structure graph to the minute so you can ruin every subsequent film, for educational purposes, and set your clock by it.

Search - plot line graph meeting - then click images.

Adelais · 04/04/2020 19:10

Casper
The Adams Family
Paddington
Maleficent
Dora and the lost city of gold
Matilda
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Mary Poppins

Most things pixar have content for adults that sails straight over the heads of children!
