Hairloss - GP?

About 3 weeks ago we began to notice that DD10 was developing a bald patch on her head. I phoned the GP (this was before lockdown etc.) He suggested leaving it a month to see if it got better. Over the last week it has got worse and her hair is thinning at the crown and around her parting. She loves her long hair and this is causing some distress. Normally I would have no hesitation about calling the GP again but given the current circumstance I'm not sure. What would you do? I'm wortied it could get much worse during this period and really upset DD.

Is your Dd feeling well otherwise?
If she is, I would hold off calling the gp until this is over. In the meantime, makes as little fuss as possible about the hair loss. The more you highlight the hair loss, the more distressed your dd will be

Sad as it is for now I wouldn’t be bothering the NHS - or putting my DD near a medical facility - unless you are worried that her hair loss is a side effect of a serious illness.

Thanks, that was my view too. I just hope she doesn't lose too much. She seems well in herself, I do wonder whether it might be stress related. We're not making a big deal of it and it is easier since she is not in school!

have you checked for ring worm? my DS had it and lost all his hair on the back of his head. You must push for the antifungals if so. Ring worm doesn't always present as a ring either, Ds looked like a graze.

Also to add my tuppence worth : be ABSOLUTELY sure she is not either consciously or unconsciously pulling it out. Both myself and a close family member have problems with hair pulling. I often dont realise I'm even doing it, whereas my family member was more intentional about doing it but passed it off fairly successfully even to doctors as it being spontaneous.
I would say try all the usual supplements too.. Iron, folic acid, vitamins etc.
