How to have an online birthday for a 7 year old?

It's DD's birthday in 2 weeks. Thinking of having an online party for her, inviting a few of her school friends. Has anyone done this or got any tips? eg for games they can play over video link or other tips?

Can anyone recommend an app for this? I was thinking of Facebook video calling maybe because of the augmented reality games you can play with it but open to suggestions - DD plays those games with her best mate but I have no idea if it works for lots of people at once?

How many DC do you think we could have onscreen at once before it becomes utter chaos / unmanageable?

I’m planning a Zoom birthday party in a few weeks’ time. I will likely do a quiz/charades/scavenger hunt. I think I’ll have to quite actively “host” the party to avoid it descending into chaos. Hopefully it will be more fun that it sounds!

We have all just downloaded the Houseparty app so kids can interact with DM and DF it’s brilliant and it has some games on there already including heads up and draw it

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Does Zoom have any games on it?

Facebook has augmented reality games eg it turns your head into a floating unicorn or narwhal character and you have to catch doughnuts on your horn. I'm not sure if lots can do it at once though.

I get the impression zoom is more for business but maybe I'm wrong about that?

I'll have a go at house party and see what it's like thanks :)

I must admit I'm slightly intimidated by the idea, I can see it descending into chaos quite easily! I'll limit the numbers and make it shorter than an ordinary party and hopefully that'll help!

We did this 2 weeks on Google Duo , there were 6 children.
We dropped a slime making kit on their doorstep ( and a bag of sweeties) and they all made it online together and sang Happy Birthday!
It worked really well, of course wasn't the party they'd hoped for but it was our only option and everyone really enjoyed!
I hope they manage to have a good birthday!

That sounds great Peta! I'm not sure if we can drop stuff off now though?

DD has already asked about presents but I've told her we can't have a party with presents because of lockdown. (She'll get plenty from us and GPs) because I thought it'd be putting people at risk.to ask them to post or deliver stuff.

I was thinking about including our address for those who can easily post a card though - what do you think, is this in the spirit of lockdown or not?

eg we have a post box on our road and stamps at home so could easily send cards.

Or maybe I could ask them to email drawings to us instead of cards?

Also birthday cards in the post is putting the postie at risk unnecessarily isn't it?
