How do people know that you have a Will?

When I was pregnant with my youngest child, we got Wills made up. However, should we both die, how will anyone know about them? I’m sure we have a copy in a drawer or file somewhere but I’d be amazed if going through paperwork is the first thing that our families chose to do.

Is there a register of Wills?

Tell them you have it and where it is.

We’ve just updated ours (needed doing anyway to include Gdcs) have put them in a folder with other essential info, and have told dds where to find it all.

There’s no register AFAIK but once probate is done they are public property and for a fee you can have a good old nose at anybody’s.

There is a register but I think it’s only open to professionals.

Tell people you have a will. I told my executors and my family. For practical reasons as well.

I have a ‘In case of my death’ file with all the bits and bobs and guidance and phone numbers in it. Including will info and bank/building society accounts. And a protocol what to do list, so that when I die, it’s as easy as possible for those dealing with it.

You usually tell your next-of-kin,or someone close to you.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 04/04/2020 10:03

You tell them if you have left it with a solicitor, and where you keep your personal copy

SnuggyBuggy · 04/04/2020 10:03

Best to tell people

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 04/04/2020 10:07

Told both sets of parents, told them what was in it and sent them both a copy

Nacreous · 04/04/2020 10:40

My parents have my Will, they have my granny's as well, and granny has theirs.

TriangleBingoBongo · 04/04/2020 12:58

@HeffalumpsCantDance

Looking at that pragmatically that’s a brilliant idea. I’m sure your family or whoever has to deal with things would be really grateful. I think we’ll do the same.

PeterFoggsTractor · 04/04/2020 13:02

Surely the people you've chosen as executors know you've made a will?

CruCru · 04/04/2020 16:22

That’s a good idea Heffalumps.

We have told the executors but it was a while ago. I’ll probably do what Heffalumps suggested.
