If you have live in staff, are they still working? Or quarantining in their own space?

Just been reading Heat and all the celebrities loading their own dishwashers. Where have all their live in housekeepers/nannies gone? Are they all in staff flats at the bottom of the garden? Gone to stay with relatives?

I thought the exact same thing 🙈

PrimeraVez · 04/04/2020 08:37

Live in staff continuing as normal
Live out staff were given the option of moving in temporarily or staying home (and not working) and taking a pay cut

MinnieMountain · 04/04/2020 08:59

They're still there really. The "celebrities" have realised they're not needed right now so are trying to pretend they're like the rest of us.

BehindTheGreenDoor · 04/04/2020 09:46

What did they opt for Primera?

EmpressLangClegInChair · 04/04/2020 10:00

I’m more interested in how many live-in staff Primera has!

Duffmcstockings · 04/04/2020 10:12

I'd love to know too. If you are short staffed are you chipping in? Or closing a few rooms?

Haven't George and Amal built a shed for theirs at the edge of their woods? A bog, a bed, a kitchen and a pool. Within a knickers stone's throw of George Clooney - where to I sign? Grin

x2boys · 04/04/2020 10:36

Live in staff 😂not sure where I would put them in my two bedroom council house ,fascinated how the other half live thougy!

Deathraystare · 04/04/2020 10:58

There's not room for staff in my one room. Shame that. I could really use someone to tidy up after me!

Duffmcstockings · 04/04/2020 11:20

I will tidy up myself thanks. If someone else looks after the kids.Grin

The only one with live in staff in our household is the cat. We have to stay because he can't open the pouches.

Papergirl1968 · 04/04/2020 11:39

Same here Gulli.
Waited on hand and foot are those bloody cats! Smile

Witchend · 04/04/2020 11:44

We have a live-in caretaker at work. He is not working during the day when anyone is in, but doing any maintenance and cleaning overnight when he doesn't see anyone.

Neednewwellies · 04/04/2020 11:56

I was reading something the other day about the royals (a couple in particular although it didn’t name them) not really understanding that much of their staff were not considered essential thus needed to stop working and go home. And there was heavy suggestion that the biggest complaints came from younger households. I’m not a royalist at all but I could well imagine the queen able to make herself a pot of tea than most of her family. She always strikes me as very practical.

Astressie · 04/04/2020 12:17

Did wonder when Prince Charles had it. If he was still having his food cooked for him or his bed made etc. Did he self isolate from Camilla or did she start doing the cooking and housework!! Grin

Redcrayons · 04/04/2020 12:20

I was wondering this about the Royal Family. Do they still have all their staff?

Pipandmum · 04/04/2020 12:20

My sister has a live in au pair from another country. She's part of the family and they are carrying on as usual.

Papergirl1968 · 04/04/2020 12:40

According to the Daily Mail today, the Queen is allowing her staff to use the royal swimming pool while they’re cooped up.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/04/2020 12:52

My niece is a Nanny, has been with family for 6 years (they have 2 sets of twins under 7 ...really they do). She has her own floor - this is the top floor with bedroom, small ensuite and another room which has a wee kitchenette and living area. She is staying put, working as normal as both parents are key workers (although one is WFH now).

longwayoff · 04/04/2020 12:57

Well I don't know. Simpkins, the butler, locked himself in the wine cellar ten days ago, the Housekeeper has barricaded the pantry - I'm sure she's got the second footman in there with her - and we're having to fend for ourselves by scrabbling around in our estate organic farm shop. Living on lemon-stuffed olives and Bath Olivers now but I'm concerned they may not be Essentials. It's not all fun and games here at the Manor House.

Fenellapitstop · 04/04/2020 13:48

I'm a key worker who can't work at home. My aupair is still here, she can't go home, she's still working with us, less than before, she's part of the family

PrimeraVez · 05/04/2020 07:27

It sounds a lot fancier than it really is Grin We have a nanny who is living with us.

Then a driver who is staying at home (and obviously not doing any driving at the moment and incurring any fuel costs so was happy to take a small pay cut) and a cleaning lady who normally comes a few times a week.

To be honest, the cleaning lady I asked more from the point of offering a safer living environment. She lives in a shared apartment with lots of others and thought she might feel a bit more protected in our home.

(I’m also not in the UK if that makes any difference - we are just a pretty normal family with two messy young kids and live somewhere where it’s pretty standard to have live in and live out staff)

BruceAndNosh · 05/04/2020 07:35

My live in staff opted to stay here.

Just as well, as it's not the time to start divorce proceedings!
