Board Games

What are you all playing at home? I have a 6 year old DS and a birthday coming up. Thought we could expand our games collection.

We’ve got a lot of the usual suspects: Guess Who, Cluedo Junior, Mousetrap (I HATE that game)

Any suggestions to tackle lockdown boredom?

Barenpark, junior catan and ticket to ride first journey were all a hit with my 6 year old nephew

Uno, kids Articulate, the Yes No Game and Frustration are our current favourites. Also enjoy Labrynth but 6 may be a little young depending on the child. Also hate Mousetrap, bloody thing takes longer to set up than play Hmm

Also, Drakarys Dice is great for a quick easy game. If you don't have Dobble would also recommend.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/04/2020 22:31

Labyrinth, junior monopoly, junior Scotland yard, operation, Jenga, some or the older orchard games, dominoes, twister, sorry, junior game of life, battleships, connect 4, guess who.

If he has a particular obsession, you can often get themed versions of games.

Sarjest · 03/04/2020 22:34

I’m surprised no-one has mentioned Dobble yet! Easy to play and the tin is small.

Fishlegs · 03/04/2020 22:38

My 5 year old loves Dobble, and Forbidden Island, which is a great collaborative game.

CharlieandLolaCat · 03/04/2020 22:38

All of the above (apart from mousetrap - avoid like the plague). Today we've started Ticket for Ride. My DS 6 absolutely loves it. And maponimoes. That's great too.

Stacey21x · 03/04/2020 22:41

Thanks for all the suggestions! Will make a list and have a look through.

Have banished Mousetrap to the back of the cupboard for fear he sees it again 😫

Hi all... first post here but my daughter is 5... we love labyrinth junior, peppa pig monopoly, dobble, cluedo junior, uno, jer favourite is Ryan's world ludo... we also like jigsaw, colouring in together (3 marker challenge) and sometimes we make a mad of the house and hide letters in order to find by looking at the map... then solve a clue... mousetrap I agree 😂 fills me with dread when she runs over with it but she likes it. Oooh... another really good one, not so well known, is called loony quest, really recommended that one... good luck x

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/04/2020 22:58

Cannybluff your map idea is great!

Stacey how about teaching card games? As well as board games? Simple ones like Snap, Monarchs then before you know it you'll be playing Newmarket and Sevens and Rummy. not Crib, jeeze that is a nightmare what with the matchsticks and whatnot

MinesAPintOfTea · 03/04/2020 23:02

My mum produced my old mousetrap game over Christmas. I was astonished: it was rubbish and broken when I was little! After trying to play with DS, it was consigned to the bin.

DS likes ticket to ride, rhino hero, smash up and any game we can think of with a normal deck of cards

Kazplus2 · 03/04/2020 23:07

Dobble and Rush hour is popular in our house. Also Disney Colour Brain is another popular one.
