........DS teaching himself to play the homemade digeridoo he has just proudly shown me.

Wouldnt be so bad if he was little but he is a big strapping 14 year old who makes the house shake when speaking at normal volume at the best of times. Him on that thing could bring the whole street down.

I'll see you all on the other side!

my 12 year old is trying to teach himself to play the guitar, and if you’ve ever seen the video of the angriest guitar player in the world, that is exactly what he’s like. i sent him out to the shed in the end because i was sick of hearing it!

lucysmam

dd1 quite fancies a keyboard this year; she's been learning at school

Get one that comes with headphones Grin

Littlefish · 03/04/2020 20:08

@glassseagulls

We have a piano, a cello, a guitar, a recorder, an amp and mic set and a very loud singer (even without the mic!).

glassseagulls · 03/04/2020 20:11

@Littlefish I think my DS2 has forgotten we have an amp and mic set Grin

MuchTooTired · 03/04/2020 20:23

My 2 year old dd has decided words aren’t really for her anymore and will only meow and baaaaa. I’d love her to get in to a musical instrument, (please, not the recorder) if it would stop the farmyard noises...

lucysmam · 03/04/2020 20:30

@MuchTooTired you may regret saying that!

mbosnz · 03/04/2020 20:36

My neighbour across the way plays the trombone loudly and proudly.

And also, really, really badly. . .

LER83 · 03/04/2020 20:42

DS's teacher helpfully set 'practice your recorder' as todays work. What was she thinking??!!

tinofbeans · 03/04/2020 20:49

My DH bought 5 year old DS a glockenspiel. A fucking glockenspiel!!!! Apparently he's going to teach him how to play. I have cried. ShockAngrySadHmm

HavenDilemma · 03/04/2020 20:51

I have all this to come [GULP]

So what was the Recorder actually invented for anyway?!

PenguinOrHippo · 03/04/2020 20:52

DD’s (year2) school distributed recorders to all pupils in her year just before the schools closed. When you realise the teachers hate you....

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 03/04/2020 20:53

I got the kids a punch bag. I've used it more than them. Great work out 😊

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 03/04/2020 20:54

I actually bought it before lock down. I just insisted on it going up yesterday. I needed to punch something 😂

Katinski · 03/04/2020 21:03

The recorder was invented so that mums can send their kids up the garden to practice, while they drink gin in the house in peaceGrin
And I've got a photo of me playing Greensleeves up the garden to prove it. Mum said it sounded nicer that way. I thought she was being niceShock

NC29 · 03/04/2020 21:22

We have a drumset, guitar, bass guitar, 3 recorders, keyboard, triangle and 2 amps to accompany these. and for my 14yr DS all surfaces are drums.
I only take out one of my old recorders when I've run out of all other punishment ideas.

Kuponut · 03/04/2020 21:41

I thought the plus point of school closures was that I wouldn't have two of them practising recorder at home.

The fucking music company have put their sodding lessons online. Fucking bastards. I know it's value for money and everything but I was looking forward to not having to hear it. At least DD2 is so bad at it she keeps trying to play the recorder upside down where it doesn't make a sound then!

DS teaching himself to play the homemade digeridoo

Didgeridon’t.

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/04/2020 00:03

DS has played guitars in various forms for the past 5 years or so, with varying levels of commitment.
About 18 months ago it really took off and is literally all he does.
I can confirm that, in time, you become so inured to it that you don't even hear it

TaTuirseOrm · 04/04/2020 00:11

Didgeridon’t 😂🤣😂

MyTwoPence · 04/04/2020 00:17

I suggest following the example of a Mum I heard mentioned on the radio yesterday: they were talking about a young boy who was playing the bagpipes outside a care home so the residents inside could hear it. Apparently his Mum had suggested that it might cheer them up...

I couldn't help wondering if she had another motive for suggesting he play somewhere other than inside her house to an audience who are (hopefully) likely to be more hard of hearing than the average group of people.
