Please share this. It is done by the sister of a friend of mine and is a very important message to get out there

Thanks!

Additional info added by MNHQ at OP's request:

This is to highlight the total lack of deaf interpreters along side covid updates in the news - there is a whole chunk of society lacking the information and support.

People on here are very reluctant to click on random links without some gist of what it's about, sorry.

I can’t make it show as a preview. It’s highlighting the total lack of deaf interpreters along side covid updates - there is a whole chunk of society lacking the information and support

There's already a petition about this - petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301461

iklboo · 03/04/2020 18:44

Ah, right. In that case it's extremely important. How can they have forgotten dead and hearing impaired people? Subtitles are notoriously unreliable. Petition signed.

PuckyMup · 03/04/2020 18:59

The petition may not make a difference in time but social media is shown to be a powerful influencer and hopefully will help
(Petition is a great cause and I’ve signed too)

Shared. Our friend in an interpreter and can pass this on to others too.

iklboo · 03/04/2020 19:11

is an interpreter - being in one would be weird.

iklboo · 03/04/2020 19:13

I've asked if MNHQ can highlight or sticker this post so it stays in view for you.

PuckyMup · 03/04/2020 19:42

Thank you :) I know I didn’t make a great eye catching post Blush

There’s no guarantee of the BBC interpreter as the lockdown announcement was made without one. The announcement was delayed and the team who insert the interpreter into the screen had finished work and sent the interpreter home.

If the interpreter is in the room (as in Scotland) there are less tech issues, and the interpreter will be on all channels and recordings.

Originally these announcements were made without an interpreter and had to be a campaign to get them there in the first place.
This was then done by removing the interpreter from a different news bulletin so Deaf people actually have less access to general news than before.
This is the Governments responsibility not the BBC.

This explains it in more detail.
