Have you ever personally killed a wart with duct tape

What did it look like as you were doing it? Did it get smaller? Change colour? How long did it take to go?

I was having it treated professionally but obviously can't now.

Thanks :)

My dd has some on her toes which cropped up very quickly. I started using gaffer tape, but found that in order to keep the gaffer tape on, I had to either use the tape like a plaster and wrap the toe, or put a plaster over a smaller piece of gaffer tape. As a result Dd's healthy skin started to break down, so we stopped.
One verruca has since just fallen off (it protruded significantly rather than was flat) the others remain, but I am hoping if one has gone it means her immune system is kicking in and they will go of their own accord.

BunnyandBee · 03/04/2020 15:00

Incidentally those of you recommending other ways (dandelion, banana etc.) Did they cause any pain or discomfort. DD is only little and they hurt her, so I am reluctant to put anything else on that may make them more painful.

Maydayredalert · 03/04/2020 15:02

I have lots of success with salicylic acid (from ebay) and an emery board. File gently, a little acid and then cover with a plaster or leave to dry naturally. It's worked for my kids several times.

Did they cause any pain or discomfort.

None whatsoever with the dandelion.

Gaffer tape on warty finger a few years ago, worked fine.

madcatladyforever · 03/04/2020 15:08

I'm a podiatrist and I've only just got rid of my verruca of 10 years. I've given myself local anaesthetic and dry needled it until it looked like raw mince, put acid on it we're not allowed to use any more, dug it out with a scalpel, had electrotherapy - deeply unpleasant involving burning it out, done countless freezing on myself.
That bugger did not move. Last year I decided just to ignore it and it shrivelled and fell off.

ruthieness · 03/04/2020 15:16

It seems to me that this is exactly how superstitions work - there is a random event like the curing of a wart and everyone thinks that whatever they were doing at the time was the cause of the cure yet the fact is that sooner or later your immune system will recognise a problem and eradicate it - but no one knows how to trigger it.

Snowinsummer · 03/04/2020 15:24

I've suffered from warts for ages. I tried everything including duct tape & spent a small fortune but the only thing that worked in the end was a Scholl verucca & wart pen. That being said I used it continuously for more days than you were supposed to & also twice a day. Think it went on the 3rd course of treatment. Also it was on my knee which they said you weren't supposed to treat. It worked though! Would recommend caution though as it really burns if you're not accurate.

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 15:27

My podiatrist told me that anything applied to the surface has a 5% chance of working.

Mind you, I'm currently approaching the end of a £300 course of microwave treatment for my verruca and it looks exactly the bloody same as it did at the start. AngryAngryAngry

I was just about to start a thread about this!

My duct tape experience was unpleasant. It seemed to make the verruca start to go away but I think I ended up with slightly necrotic flesh .. DH agreed it stank in a bad, bad way. So I stopped before finding out if it would work. Plus the hole that was developing on my foot was freaking me out.

So I'm back to pissing my cash up the wall on Bazuka. Which is doing nothing Confused

I may try banana peel next. And google whether I can go private to have them removed. They are really getting me down (3 small ones on same foot, very close together) and they are getting uncomfortable when I run too.

jcurve · 03/04/2020 15:47

Wartner pen! I had a literal farm crop of verrucas on my feet for the best part of 10 years. One day, about two years ago, they just died. They went black and fell out.

I’ve had a couple come back and I treat them as soon as I notice with Wartner pen with TCA acid which kills them in about a week. Again they go black and disappear.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 03/04/2020 15:48

Sorry just noticed you're discussing warts not verrucas.

As you were Grin

Vagndidit · 03/04/2020 15:48

Yup, we shifted a large verruca from DS's foot with a combination of duct tape, medicinal cream and daily filing. Took several weeks and persistence but it worked.

PoptartPoptart · 03/04/2020 17:18

I have had mine for two years now.
I have tried everything, literally every single thing that has been mentioned on this thread.
Nothing works.
I give up!

YeOldeTrout · 03/04/2020 17:22

what helped mine was filing them down aggressively with emery board...
What helped with DD's was cutting her food badly (accident), it's like her body finally noticed & removed the barnacles.

Bananas, OTC potions, prescribed potions, Duct tape all didn't work.

PurpleBlueAnemone · 03/04/2020 17:29

I thought I had verrucas on the sole of my foot and tried duct tape, garlic and banana. Separately, this wasn't a cookery experiment.
Nothing worked.
Then I read a thread on here that said a lot of these verrucas were probably soft corns.
I've ignored them ever since.
Well that's a lie actually. I sometimes file them with an emery board when I'm bored. Ooooh....searches for emery board

ChicChicChicChiclana · 03/04/2020 17:33

My Mum got rid of my brother's multiple warts on his hands by rubbing them with steak and burying the steak in the garden. I am not joking.

Mousetrap3 · 03/04/2020 17:51

Colloidal silver spray got rid of a wart on my finger and a verruca on my foot that I’d had for years. Just sprayed on 2 or 3 times a day and it didn’t hurt some treatments were really painful.

Drogonssmile · 03/04/2020 17:52

Dandelion sap worked for me

Ownerofmultiplechimps · 03/04/2020 17:56

ds had a huge one on the ball of his foot, Apple cider vinegar & duct tape worked within 3 weeks

Cissyandflora · 03/04/2020 18:03

How about a fungal toenail. Anyone done anything for this? I’ve tried the vinegar and tea tree oil. Onto nailner now but no change.

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 18:05

I have really sweaty feet Blush duct tape wouldn't stick to the bottom of my feet. Tried to do cider vinegar and tape and the only way I could get anything to stay in place (even if I only did it overnight and took it off in the day) was to wrap it round the ball of my foot a few times and put thin strips between my toes to secure it. That meant that the healthy skin was trapped in a sweat pit and I basically have myself trench foot. The verucca was untouched Angry.

PurpleBlueAnemone · 03/04/2020 18:07

Fungal nail you say?
Yes two years, TWO YEARS of scholl stuff.

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 18:10

Interestingly, podiatrist also told me that in many cases it's not a fungal infection at all, but a case of blunt trauma damage. If so, it won't change.

Fatted · 03/04/2020 18:13

I filed off a verruca with a ped egg once. Had the bastard thing for about six years before. It did also conincide with getting my iron levels sorted out, which probably actually stopped it growing back.
