Cost of food shopping during lockdown?

Has your shopping bill gone up? I've seen a lot of posters mention spending a lot more. I've just been going through my monthly spending and there isn't any difference for us, (2 adults, ds 14, dd 12). I'm still shopping mostly in Lidl and have been able to get most things.I'm more organised as I've got more time to cook and instead of making packed lunches for everyone we are using up leftovers or having homemade soup instead. We are not big meat eaters and I can get a few meals out a Mumsnet chicken! Average spend is £80 a week and includes toiletries and cleaning stuff.

It's hard to tell, I'm probably spending about the same overall though since no eating out.

I've bought eggs (£2 a box for local free range instead of £1 at Tesco) and meat at the butchers which is more expensive.

I've had bread and milk delivered from the corner shop which is more expensive with a delivery charge on top.

I've not been nipping into the supermarket and impulse buying a couple of times a week and not been buying pizza the nights I worked till 9pm. I've not been giving into DDs begging and going to Mcdonalds.

I was going to get a take away till I realised they have hiked their prices buy getting rid of all their deals!

Ours has gone up mainly due to there no longer being any offers on, and it seems that only the branded/more expensive stuff is in stock. We normally buy our meat at the butcher and that's still roughly the same.

Mine has gone up. I did my last "big" shop a fortnight ago and had to buy more expensive brands that I wouldn't normally buy as they were the only things available (Tesco). The first shop I had been in had already marked up their prices on most items. I haven't managed to leave the house for more food just yet but I imagine I will be spending a lot more than in previous times.

I'm spending £110-20 p/w now where it used to be £85-90. All offers disappeared and some shelves have no prices on at all! In Wilko there were anti-bac wipes but no sprays and DS usual multi vits but had expensive brand instead. Lots of bare shelves which is weird seeing as the panic buying should have calmed down now

Yes because 3 children had school meal and they would then have a lite meal in the evening.
A lot of tescos basics ranges have been stopped so even buying basics is more expensive.
Tesco have also stopped a lot of multi buy offers which means more expense.
Can't buy larger packsizes which also helped keep the cost down.
Gluten free ranges have been reduced - I tend to buy naturally gf foods for ds however do buy him gf cereal, pasta and bread all seem to be more pricey brands at the moment (on already very pricey products).

That's been the issue here as well, with two hungry strapping teenagers there is less to go round. I made chicken fajitas last night and they polished off all the chicken which I'd have like to last two nights and I had the sauce with peppers and onions and no chicken - I'd rather they had it - for my dinner. They aren't greedy but they are 6 foot beanpoles who seem to grow overnight.

It's gone up a bit. DS is Year 2 so he is (or was) still on free school meals, so I'm now buying extra for lunch at home. Also I'm doing more baking out of boredom so buying extra bits for that.

feelinguseless101 · 03/04/2020 22:03

Ours has gone up loads! But our kids are usually in full time nursery and DH and I buy lunch at work so it's hardly a surprise, we gone from 40 meals per week to 84 plus snacks!

PerspicaciaTick · 03/04/2020 22:08

Our weekly spend has gone up from about £80 to £130. DH is a very careful shopper but without deals and offers we are paying full whack for everything and it is a bit of a shock.

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 03/04/2020 22:11

Ours has gone up too. We used to spend approx. £100 a week for 2 adults and 2 small toddlers but are currently spending about £150. We have meat every day, bake a lot and we like a variety of branded items. I genuinely don’t understand how people spend so little but I do admire it. We don’t throw barely anything away so maybe we just have expensive taste.

Amrythings · 03/04/2020 22:12

I'm spending more on the shopping but we're not buying lunches at work, teenager isn't getting extra spending money and we're not paying for nursery so we're breaking even if not saving some.

But my god, we're going through bread and digestive biscuits at a shocking rate.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 04/04/2020 09:31

Yes - normally we'd do Asda online weekly but lack of delivery slots and lots of unavailable items has meant we're using a combination of Ocado and a local delivery service. Both are costing more. DC also usually in nursery full time so would be getting fed there.
