Travel Insurance and key worker holidays changed

My DH is a key worker. His employer has changed their working schedule so that he will now have to work when we were supposed to be going on holiday.

Holiday isn't for a couple of months yet but if he can't go on the holiday does that mean we can cancel the whole holiday and get our money back through the insurance? Is him not being able to go on the holiday enough for the whole holiday to be cancelled/refunded? Or would the insurance refuse to refund and say that me and kids could still go?

I really don't think the holiday will go ahead anyway because of the lockdown so not sure whether to wait for the holiday company to cancel or claim on the insurance.

Not explaining myself very well but hopefully you will understand!

I can’t imagine they’d pay out for this, but that’s just my opinion. The only ones who’ll be able to tell you are the insurance company.

Has he tried asking for the holiday dates to be respected? In some places of work, if the employer revoked leave, they refund your holiday costs.

Impossible to know without seeing the actual terms of your policy. ExDH was a police officer and we used to make sure our travel insurance covered cancellation of police leave.

It will only be covered if you have that section in the policy, otherwise you'd have to ask your employer to cover the cost of changing the date.

However I wouldn't bank on holidays happening as normal in 2 months time, is it May half term? There might still be travel restrictions in place then, so your holiday might not go ahead then anyway.

We have an annual policy and I've since discovered that I'm not covered if my leave was cancelled. When the time comes for renewal I will definitely make sure that's written in!

What are you classing as a key worker? Most good policies including cancellations following withdrawal of leave for emergency services and armed forces

He works in the shipping industry. Vital now. I've read the insurance policy but says nothing about employers changing leave. We are going with Jet2. I think they will probably cancel so might just ride it out.
