If you are losing weight what are you eating?

And how can I get some self control? I used to be 10st which was too much for my height. (Only 5ft 1) I'm now 10st 8 and I dont know how. Well I do, I love food. I love cheese and I'm addicted to chocolate. I try to eat healthily I really do, but there's always treats in the house because I cant stop other people having stuff.

I think I'm an emotional eater, I eat for all sorts of reasons, boredom is a big one at the moment! I dont actually process sugar very well and my blood sugars can get high which leads to feeling starving. I just feel totally lost and fed up at the moment. Need someone to plan out everything that I eat and not let me have anything else!

I've started running which I like but has given me terrible pain in my shins so maybe I should go back to walking. My husband is practically vegan (I eat meat) and he has lost so much weight but he will have a big, late, breakfast and dinner but that's really it. I think I eat more than he does.

Look up the keto diet Smile

I think I have looked at that before. I suppose I dont want to have dramatically different dinners to the rest of the family as it just gets too complicated. But maybe keto is the answer. Willpower is also the answer with me!

You need to go on a diet if you want to lose weight.
Doesn't matter which one, just find the one which suits you (eg the one you can stick to).
You need to eat less calories than you burn per day.
Nothing else will work.
Brisk walking is very good for burning calories if you are too over-weight to run.

16 / 8 no breakfast light lunch late morning odd snack normal dinner 6ish nothing else do this in the week relax weekends lost 2.5 stone. Was 11st 12 now 9st 7 but am 5 6 so abit taller

fairyfingers · 03/04/2020 07:54

I hear ya

You aren't very overweight really (maybe a stone?) so losing it will be tougher.

I have put on a stone in the last year (was a bit overweight to start with but nothing drastic) and it's a bugger to shift. I too am an emotional eater who uses food as a reward/distraction.

For me I need distraction so I don't bored eat, I need to not be stressed and to be sleeping well and I need to factor in treats like new clothes or trips out. I need to be prepared and have a routine.

So, ideal conditions at the moment Wink

I do find if I reduce refined carbs (I have a normal portion of carbs with my dinner but not for breakfast or lunch but eat whatever fruit and veg I fancy), reduce portion size and track on mfp I'm more likely to see success even if very slow.

Oh and I have treats. I have a list of 200 calorie or less treats and I have one a day. I just count them. There are loads of things which fit in this, hot x buns, some choc, most crisps. Saves me from binging if I allow myself something

I regularly have to take steroids which give me a massive appetite and seems to make it easy for me to gain weight if I don’t restrict. For me, a 5-2 type diet seems to work best, trying to restrict to under 500 calories two days a week and then trying to eat well buy to a planned routine (three meals but planned snacks) on the other days. If I fancy something on a restricted day, I remind myself I can have it the following day if still want it and then try to do something else to distract myself. Hunger passes.. It’s not easy but I find it the best way to keep my weight down when on steroids. I can usually come off the diet when not on steroids as my health issues tend to keep my weight down anyway but I’ve been back on it more recently due to spending so much time at home (in the fridge).

Thank you. This is helpful. Dont think I'm too overweight to run. I'm.not that heavy!!!

Sorry I thought you said you were getting pain when you ran...I assumed that was because of your weight (and the fact you were asking advice how to lose weight?).
That's why I suggested brisk walking which is much lower impact, but burns a very similar amount to jogging.

Namechange3007 · 03/04/2020 09:27

That's ok that's a fair thing to assume! I got shin splints but not weight related.
