Can you still get freshly baked things in supermarkets?

I go to Lidl once a week and, not surprisingly, they’ve closed their bakery section. I haven’t been to any other supermarkets so don’t know what they do.
I’d love some baguette or a fresh croissant. Do any supermarkets do them at the moment?
Thanks

I imagine they've closed Lidl bakery as there's no packaging on anything

BearSoFair · 02/04/2020 15:08

Our Sainsburys still has the bakery as usual. It's the only counter still going!

ivykaty44 · 02/04/2020 15:10

can you get the vacuum packed part baked rolls and baguettes got bake yourself? to be honest most bakery items are part baked in store and not made in store. Unless you goto a tradition bakery or artisan baker

SoupDragon · 02/04/2020 15:11

Either Waitrose or Sainsbury's local to me closed their bakery counters in the week prior to lockdown. I can't remember which. It was more to redirect the staff elsewhere in the store.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 02/04/2020 15:31

At the moment, Lidl fresh bakery items are supposed to be wrapped/bagged by staff before being put on the shelf.

hamsterchump · 02/04/2020 15:38

Our Lidl bakery was open as usual on Saturday last, I got a very nice French stick.

Terralee · 02/04/2020 16:08

Yes seem them in Tesco & in M&S all wrapped up

Ghostlyglow · 02/04/2020 17:00

My DP worked at a large supermarket for a few years before he retired. He hadn't been there long before he declared we were never getting anything from the in store bakery ever again... Just saying Wink

Gingerkittykat · 02/04/2020 17:53

You can buy the jus roll tubes of croissant dough in the fridge, they are amazingly good.

EL8888 · 02/04/2020 17:55

Not near me sadly

@Gingerkittykat good point, that will be a good weekend treat!

Chiyo666 · 02/04/2020 17:55

My Lidl bakery is still open but it’s pre bagged

dementedpixie · 02/04/2020 19:00

We buy frozen croissants and pain au chocolat from tesco and Asda and cook them ourselves

modgepodge · 02/04/2020 19:49

We had some jus roll croissants today, very nice. May buy some of the cinnamon roll ones tomorrow. Yum!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/04/2020 19:58

Treated us to Portuguese custard tarts in Tesco today. I went for essentials but some treats necessary

Nanasueathome · 02/04/2020 20:03

Portuguese custard tarts are ‘essentials’

GuyFawkesDay · 02/04/2020 21:13

I saw them and couldn't resist. Amongst the mundanity of washing powder, ketchup and veg, they really made my day!

MrsJBaptiste · 02/04/2020 21:58

We had pain au chocs from Lidl this morning. DH was on the hunt for pasta which he couldn't get but did return with said pastries, wine, beer and Yorkshire tea bags. Get in!

RockinHippy · 03/04/2020 09:21

Here & where my DF lives the small independent bakers are changing their businesses to survive & delivering not only their own fresh baked goods, but picking up eggs, milk, pet food etc from the supermarkets & delivering that too. Everything we've had is so much nicer too, maybe try that

Davespecifico · 04/04/2020 17:08

What a liberty MrsJBaptiste. I wonder what’s happened to my Lidl bakery then. Maybe the baker is poorly.
