Is anyone surprised that they actually feel calmer?

Obviously I have several big worries due to the current situation, but overall I feel calmer and less stressed. Work is quiet (working from home), kids are settling into the routine of being at home, I’m getting a big run in every morning so feel relaxed and well exercised, and most of all I just feel better for not rushing around. It is quiet- no planes overhead, no traffic noise.
I don’t want this to be insensitive, I do realise that for lots of people this situation means massive financial hardship and that lots of people are also having to be at work outside the home.
But it does make me realise that modern life is very noisy and stressful, and very anxiety inducing. And also that most situations have good bits as well as bad bits if you look for them.

Travel - not be as accessible I should have put.

My DCs are loving it. Really-not bored or climbing the walls. 11 and 13 so socialising over Xbox and HouseParty.
Our situation is stressful (DH super high risk, super ‘sheilded’ as recovering from stem cell transplant) but it’s ok. I’m worrying about how we’ll cope when I return to work though. My DM helps with a school run and lives with us a lot but she’s gone into iso at her house so who knows.

I've enjoyed spending time with husband and kids. Between school (for the kids) and work (for the adults) we are rarely in the same room together. Husband works days and I work evenings and weekends. It's been nice spending time together as a family even if it's just for chores and school work. We've had meals together every day which almost never happens!

I've saved a fortune not shopping or spending on petrol so I've managed to reduce a few debts which have been stressing me out. Not massive debts but enough to worry me.

Husbands definitely less stressed too( he's been furloughed).

I'm in two halves. The one half is frightened, preoccupied, overwhelmed, the other half is grateful to have the time back from my commute, to not have to sit in packed commuter transport, to not have to listen to the too many people at work, the list goes on. I'm very busy wfm, but grateful for the quieter days. My new year's resolution was to cut back on everything and live more simply, i even socialise less but better, this has been great for me in that respect.

I've never been busier (Just joined police) but tbh my confidence has never been higher. I've always been seen as a bit of a ditz so it is awesome to flex my muscles a bit and show what I'm capable of. The pride in our forces atm is immense so that's doing wonders for morale

Not calm at all, my anxiety is in overdrive!

I'm much more zen now I'm staying away from the news apart from a peek at the headlines once a day.

I'm surprised by how happy my children are being at home as well.

Onceuponatimethen · 03/04/2020 09:03

Yes my two are so much happier- they haven’t actually been outside our house or garden for almost three weeks as we had to self isolate due to very mild symptoms that may / may not have been corona. And that’s been fine with them!

My OH and I are relatively young and retired and not in high risk groups so actually our lives have not changed a great deal. We live somewhere where it's easy to take walks in a big open space direct from our house, people locally are taking social distancing seriously, I'm doing most of my usual activities by Zoom (yoga, choir, book group, chatting to friends and family), gardening, reading and doing quizzes and rewatching the whole of The West Wing in the evenings. I'm not stopping for numerous coffees and cake when out so saving money and losing weight! I do miss not having trips away to look forward to (it looks like a big holiday in Canada in the summer will have to be cancelled) but if I stay away from the news I reckon I can deal with this for a while yet.
