Help - I just can't see how this desk top will attach to this frame with these screws

I can see the holes match up but just don't get how the two bits of the desk are to attach! May need to resort to glue - but don't have any. Can anyone cleverer than me please help?

You don't need glue. Can't tell you actually how to do it but I've seen dh do it. It's the circular thing that works.

I'm sure someone will tell you soon.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 01/04/2020 12:17

You put the left-hand metal doof in the bottom hole, the metal rod in the top hole then ease the top one over the bottom hole. When it's in place you use a screwdriver to turn the metal doof through about 90° )

Hope it works!

I'm finding it hard to describe but the circular bit should have a bit that you could use a flat head screwdriver to turn. So you put that into the round hole so will be able to turn it with the screwdriver. The screw bit gets attached to the other part of the table.
The you attach the table top to the base slotting the screws into the hole that leads to the circular bit. You then use screwdriver to turn the circular bit and the lock together...I

Yep circle thing In with the flattest side facing out. Should be a little narrow on there. Ensure that points up.

The screw end in to the table top.

Put the 2 together then turn the circle clockwise.

Rollercoaster1920 · 01/04/2020 12:21

Do you have instructions? The screw bit goes in the underside of the worktop. The worktop then gets places with the screws down into the holes on the sides. The round bit goes in the hole and acts like a cam tightening the top down. Pictures will be better than my words!

Thank you both. Really stupid question alert - i get I need to put the bolt thing in the big hole on the side of the frame, and then I get that I put the screw in the hole at the top of the frame - but I just don't see how the desk top will then be attached! It has tiny holes that don't go right through...

The screw should stick out of the table top and then pass down through the wood and into the opening C shape bolt thing. When you twist the C shape bolt thing the C will turn around, closing the gap so the screw can't leave again

MayFayner · 01/04/2020 12:27

You’ve got to screw the long thing into the tabletop part of the desk before you do anything else.

Is this Ikea? If so, get the instructions from the website.

Icedlatte · 01/04/2020 12:27

You need to bang the screw into the table top, THEN lower it into the hole to meet the C shape

3littlemonkeys82 · 01/04/2020 12:28

Do you mean this hole doesn't go all the way down to where the circle bit is?

You put the screw thing on the right into the hole and screw it in. It should then protrude from the desk top. Then you put the circular one into the large hole. Then you slot the protruding screw into the hole so that it slots into the circular one, and use a screwdriver to turn the circular big clockwise, so that it locks the screw in.

1:45 onward....

Theduchessstill · 01/04/2020 13:22

Thanks all - got sidetracked by dc demanding lunch. I think it's starting to make sense. I'll watch video and try again.

Hope the video helps.

Basically, first the stud screws into the desk top. Lay the desk top on the floor with the stud(s) sticking up into the air, Then lower the panel onto the desk top making sure the stud goes in to the hole that leads to the larger hole. Then place the larger ‘disc’ into the hole in the side panel and turn it with a slotted screwdriver. This ‘pulls ‘the stud down and locks it in place.

billyt · 01/04/2020 13:32

Sorry, first screw the studs into the desk top.....

And when you lower the side panels onto the desk top the larger holes go on the inside so not seen easily when assembled and upright.

Theduchessstill · 01/04/2020 13:52

Thank you so much Billyt for that - not a chance in hell I could have worked that out. Should be ok now Flowers

It doesn't look as if it should work but it does (we've assembled more Ikea furniture this year than you'd believe....). Once you've done one, it makes sense.

Theduchessstill · 01/04/2020 14:24

Done - yay! Thanks everyone Cake
