I've been shopping local for past couple of weeks but could now do with going to a large Tesco super store about 15 mins drive away (local mini markets only have basic ranges and the store cupboard items are being used up, so need replenishing - NOT stockpiling, please note!).

It's a huge store with big clothing section along with homeware and electricals but can I buy anything from here? Printer is ancient and on last legs, a new one would be handy. Having cleaned house top to bottom, some new towels would be nice, likewise a couple of T shirts now weather is improving. Obviously not essentials so please don't jump on me for that. Simply wondering if it's "allowed" to buy anything other than food and everyday household items.

Oh and of course if they are only allowing a few customers in then it wouldn't be fair to be idly browsing clothes.

If the shop is selling it, you’re okay to buy it. The recommendation is that people stick to essentials. It isn’t a law and it’s not defined what is essential and what isn’t. If you need clothes then get them!

I think that supermarket shopping is for essentials at the moment. If there are people queuing up outside because it’s one in one out I wouldn’t be comfortable browsing clothes/household items. But if you know what you want and just quickly chuck it in your trolley like you would food then I can’t see a problem.

I was in a big Sainsbury's the other day, the new clothes are available to buy but the sale section was closed off. I guess its to minimise rummaging.

Now is not the time to spend any more time in the supermarket than is necessary for your own safety.

I was wondering about this. Dd1 has no summer clothes whatsoever which doesn't matter now but might in a few weeks. I seem to remember Easter being very warm for the last couple of years and she will cook in jeans and long sleeved tops.

I think you just need to decide how best to use your time in the supermarket. If you know what you need and can just grab it - fine. Browsing and trying on, no. But that would be what I'd do.
