Does low ferritin make you feel bad?

I have had anaemia for a couple of years. Not too drastic. Iron levels usually between 10 and 11. I have been referred for an iron infusion as iron tablets wreck my stomach. That was weeks ago and I doubt I will be seen for ages due to Corona. My GP also told me my ferritin level is 10 which I think is quite low. I've been really tired for weeks and am generally lacking in motivation to do anything. Could this be due to the low ferritin? I just want to have a bit more get up and go, even if there's nowhere to actually go!

I’m exactly the same. My ferritin levels are 5 and haemoglobin 11. Ive felt dreadful for months and can’t get along with the tablets at all. You have my sympathy Flowers

Mine was 3 and I felt dreadful.
A course of iron tablets helped, but I was perimenopausal and bleeding a LOT.

Yes, I feel low in energy when ferritin is low. Different types of iron can be less upsetting to your stomach and vit C is needed to absorb iron. Did they check anything else? Thyroid, B12, Vit D? Issues with all/any can affect energy.

I’m currently struggling to stay awake without a nap in the day which is only possible if I put a film on for the DC. Feeling like a rubbish mum right now 👎🏻

I feel like that when my thyroid, vitamin d, or iron is low

Can you make a big effort to eat iron rich foods and not have tea or coffee within a couple of hours of meals. Also take vitamin c tablets to increase your iron absorption.
The sachets of liquid stuff that you can buy in the chemist are very low dose and gentle on your stomach. You can take 2 a day in some juice.
All the above measures together can make a difference.

You might be low in vitamin D. I read a study a while ago suggesting we should all take supplements during the winter months.

B12 and thyroid are fine. I take one of the gentle, slow release iron supplements but it doesn't seem to make much difference. My GP previously had me on about 4x the RDA for iron and I just couldn't tolerate it.
