Tongue Ulcer and the Squits

(Not a band name FYI)

  1. My DH has a whopper of an ulcer on his tongue, just where it attaches at the base, eating, drinking and talking are painful, ibuprofen is barely touching it and Bonjela seems to just wash away.
Have any of you had a fucker of a tongue ulcer and can you recommend any fixes? No GP phone call until Thursday and the pharmacies here have restricted hours hard and people just don’t get social distancing.
  1. My 2 year old son has had squishy poos for weeks now and we suspect a milk allergy. Eliminating diary from his diet is a fucking nightmare as he keeps stealing his sister’s Babybels and finding random bits of Nutella toast on the floor. How did you manage to work out if your DC had an intolerance or just a squashy bum?

I know that Mumsnet isn’t the NHS but as we are in the grip of isolating ourselves through a global pandemic I’m seeking anything that may help us in the short term before I go postal dealing with a pain riddled husband who’s trying but failing at normality.

Dank je wel

Salt water rinses. Currently doing this thanks to catching HFMD of DC. Stings but feels a lot better afterwards.

My ex suffered terribly with mouth ulcers and discovered that eating an egg every day reduced the frequency and intensity massively. He was not impressed by Bonjela or Iglu type products but found a soluble aspirin rinse/gargle helpful.

Have you googled toddler diarrhoea- it's quite common?

I second salt water rinses as being best cure for ulcers.

Thank you for this, it appears DH has and thinks DS doesn’t fit the description as he only does one massive splatty poo a day (DS, not DH).

DH is sensitive to milk though so I wonder if he’s doing a biased google IYSWIM?

Oral gel extra strong from the pharmacy for ulcers (they should still be open). If you get some, tell your DH to first wash his hands, then put some gel onto his finger, place onto ulcer and HOLD IT THERE. It might sting like buggery for a few seconds, but I've found doing it this way works really well. Also, do this last thing at night before bed as well as through the day.

Difflam mouthwash is amazing for ulcers.
Try it for a week. However if it's no different in 7 days he MUST get it looked at by gp or (preferably) a dentist. you can take a photo of it and email it in if you can't be seen face to face.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 31/03/2020 07:38

This is what he’s trying and it’s not working. He’s in fucking agony this morning and without sounding stone cold being in lockdown with a grumpy pain ridden husband and three under 5 whilst working FT is as fun as it sounds.

Sorry, this is more of a rant than an appeal

Anbesol liquid (you can only get it over the counter). Better than the gel as that just slides off. Stings like you wouldn't believe but then the lidocaine kicks in and you're pain free for a while. Literally put the liquid on a clean finger and hold on the ulcer for a few seconds.

I did also have my recurring ulcers checked by a dentist and GP. Mine were stress related even though I didn't feel very stressed at the time. I still get them now and again.

jdisos · 31/03/2020 08:11

If ulcer older than 2 weeks GP

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 31/03/2020 10:38

No, it’s only been 4 days but by Christ it’s been 4 long days
