Where does all the money come from?

Forgive me, as when it comes to politics and all things government I am completely clueless.
I stick my head in the sand.

So I am curious. The money the government will pay for all of the 80% furloughs plus on costs. And the reclaimed SSP. And all of the other extra costs from everything Coronavirus related....
..... where does the money come from?

When I google it says the UK are already in trillions of debt. So who to? Is there someone out there who is disgustingly rich and just lends money to countries?

Hope I haven’t just asked the dumbest questions ever. I am 37 by the way- not 12!

Increased taxes and I wonder if the pension and benefits schemes will be looked at when this is all over

What pension & benefits schemes? You mean like public sector workers pensions and say, occupational maternity pay schemes etc?

They borrow using something called treasury bonds, which are available for anyone to buy. They pay interest to the bondholders at a set rate. I think most government bonds will be owned by pension funds.

I wonder if I will still get my state pension in 2 years. I am a WASPI.

We're borrowing it at the moment. What we do about that later us another matter.

As a result of the last recession there were severe cuts to public services as I'm sure we're all aware. The NHS being one if them but basically everything. Police, fire service, education, local councils, everything. Lord only knows what will happen as a result of this situation. We'll be paying for it for a generation I think. I wonder how they'll manage to sell NHS funding cuts to the public after this.

Higher taxes when this is over will repay what they are borrowing now.

They issue gilts, which are essentially very long dated loans. Other countries and institutions like insurance companies and pension funds buy them as they want the regular income from the interest payments. The capital has to be repaid at the end of the term. Often by issuing more gilts.
