Selling broken / odd bits of silver jewellery - advice wanted

I've been sorting drawers and boxes and found a few old / broken chains / odd ear-rings / a plain ring band etc (all hallmarked or 925 silver). When life gets a little more back to normal, I'd like to sell them for scrap if I can but not sure how to go about it - do all jewellers accept silver and gold to be melted down? I know it's done be weight but no idea of the current price of silver to get an idea of value. Does anybody out there know please?

I've used Hatton garden jewellers, you post them the stuff. Gold prices have really dropped and silver is never worth much anyway.
If you go on Martin Lewis money saving website, he recommends Hatton garden jewellers. They pay the best price, far and away more than a local jeweller.
I speak from experience.

Thank you TDogs - interesting info, as I'd normally be suspicious of posting such items to some unknown place, rather than taking items into a jewellers shop. Will bear Hatton in mind and keep tidying and looking for other bits!

We had our items acid tested at a local jewellers and they offered £400. We sent to Hatton garden jewellers and they paid us £620, so quite a big difference.
Next time I had no hesitation just weighing with my digital kitchen scales and posting to them.

Wow TDogs, that was a good haul to weigh in! Do you know if they accept single ear-rings with say a gem stone (tigers eye) or cubic zirconia or does everything have to be "just" silver?

They accept things with stones in and prise these out and weigh the precious metal only. I didn't send any silver items as the scrap value is tiny.
