Two and a half year old suddenly keeps wetting herself

This really.

She’s fairly recently potty trained but took to it really well and really quickly. Dry at night almost instantly. Been this way for a couple of months now.

All of a sudden she keeps wetting herself. Three or four times in the past two days (once in our bed - lovely!)

I am concerned to be honest. I know things have changed, we are all at home and she’s not at nursery etc. But she seems happy in herself. She gets quite upset when it happens. We are trying not to react.

Any ideas..?

Anyone?

Could be stress or a UTI.

tattychicken · 29/03/2020 17:03

Could she have a UTI? If mild she might not have a temp or be in pain, but urgency and frequency are signs of UTIs. Other wise have you changed anything she eats eg juice or squash brands/flavours.

it is normal for them to regress at a major change or life event. Dd1 was 2 when dd2 was born and regressed similarly.

don't get stressed or react, she can't help it. Just reward the good behaviour.

Also be sure she's drinking enough and no cordial. take her the loo when you go etc etc

1moreRep · 29/03/2020 17:04

also she's probably missing the routine of nursery so ensure you keep to a routine and encourage her to go

iMoan7 · 29/03/2020 17:13

I did wonder about a UTI but it’s only been maybe once or twice a day and huge amounts. I find when I have a UTI it’s a constant need to go but just small amounts. I have no idea how to get that checked at the moment I really hope it’s not a UTI Confused

Funnily enough DH pointed out that on two of the occasions it’s been when she’s been washing her hands. Literally right next to the toilet 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son has done this twice this weekend and similar age. Been great at potty training.

I've put it down to being completely out of routine and having bursts of hyper behaviour being cooped up

earlydoors42 · 29/03/2020 18:20

Just checking she isn't also thirsty? My daughter has type 1 diabetes and weeing a lot more is a symptom.

iMoan7 · 29/03/2020 19:37

I don’t think she is weeing more frequently and she isn’t noticeably more thirsty. She just has accidents

Has she been having different drinks at home? My DC have accidents if they drink juice.

iMoan7 · 29/03/2020 20:11

She’s probably having more juice than usual, yeah. At nursery they drink water through the day but I can’t get her to drink water at home so I give her weak squash. Why would that make her have accidents though? Is there a link?

Yes, as juice is acidic it can irritate the bladder. Maybe try a different cup or bottle tomorrow with just water and see if it helps?

Selfsettling3 · 29/03/2020 21:15

Blackcurrent juice is linked to bed wetting.
It could be UTI, constipation or worms.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/03/2020 21:18

Growth spurt.

iMoan7 · 29/03/2020 21:32

Growth spurt is interesting. She’s eating me out of house and home at the moment

Have you been reminding her frequently to go? I imagine in nursery they bring them all to the loo frequently and expect them to go, rather than allowing them to go when they need to, especially 2 year olds.

iMoan7 · 29/03/2020 21:58

Yes but she doesn’t like to go. She will refuse when she’s busy etc (that’s not a new thing)

It sounds like she is just leaving it till the last minute because she doesnt want to go. Nursery would just bring her in every hour or whatever and i would do the same. Did you reward her when you were training her to motivate her, maybe you could go back to doing that, just for the moment.
