Initials in signature - old fashioned?

BigGlasses · 29/03/2020 13:35

My parents, and a lot of their generation (late 60s) use their initials in their signature, for instance Dad’s is WRTSmith and Mum’s is MaryJSmith. However most of my generation (30/40s)such as me and my sister use just our first and last name, eg Emma Smith.

Is this just my family/friends? Not that it matters, i’m Just musing/bored.

( all names have been changed/made up obviously, but the format is what i’m On about)

I sign D Apple, I don't bother with my middle initial. I'm late 30s.

DH signs A. B. Apple (with full stops) he's mid 50s.

Mine is initial surname - except that at work I sign a lot of letters, and my first initial has mutated to look more like a J than a V, and my surname has evolved into ‘first two letter and squiggle’.

Thank god i don’t have to sign credit card slips anymore as mine doesn’t look like on the back of my card!!

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 29/03/2020 14:56

I changed mine when I got married and just do the initials - ABC. Before, I did initial then surname.
I'm 36

mogtheexcellent · 29/03/2020 14:57

First initial, middle initial and surname. Surname is very long so generally just a wibbly line and I need the middle initial as I share a first initial and surname with my MIL. Plus the initials and first letter on my surname spell a word so for example 'C.A.T------'

ThinkPinkStink · 29/03/2020 14:59

I'm 40. Mins is first initial then surname. e.g. J Smith.

I haven't ever thought about including my middle initial (it's never crossed my mind), but now it has, I'll be giving it a go!

TheGreatWave · 29/03/2020 15:09

First initial, second initial, surname. Flows better like that and also breaks the two similar letters.

HoffiCoffi13 · 29/03/2020 15:12

35 and mine is initials and surname. Couldn’t be arsed to sign my whole first name.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/03/2020 15:18

I'm early 40s and do initial then surname. Before I married it was first initial, second initial then surname, but my middle initial ruined the handwriting "flow" into my married name, so I stopped using it

MillicentMartha · 29/03/2020 15:23

J J Bloggs. My surname was very common so the middle initial made it a bit more me! Josephine Bloggs would take too long.

MillicentMartha · 29/03/2020 15:24

Oops, mid 50s.

Northernsoullover · 29/03/2020 15:25

48 and I sign Northern S Lover.

YerAWizardHarry · 29/03/2020 15:27

I just do first initial then surname, my surname is 9 letters so anything more than that is a PITA

YerAWizardHarry · 29/03/2020 15:27

Edit i'm mid-twenties.

TroysMammy · 29/03/2020 15:27

I'm 52 and sign initial and surname. If it's informal I use first name, surname. Very informal, first name only.

TroysMammy · 29/03/2020 15:28

I've only got one first name.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 29/03/2020 15:30

I'm early thirties and have a double-barrelled surname, my signature is:

First initial, second initial, first surname initial, second surname.

Otherwise it would be ten miles long! Grin

TwoZeroTwoZero · 29/03/2020 15:31

Mine is meant to be my first initial, the first part of my surname's initial and then the last part of my surname in full. It actually looks more like a wiggly line though because I cba to write it all.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 29/03/2020 15:31

I'm 40 btw

Zisforstripyoss · 29/03/2020 15:33

I use my initials and then surname, so AB Stripyoss. I'm in my 30s and I always have done, ever since we all spent time practising and deciding our signatures in primary school! I'm not sure why, although my first name is quite long and I only ever use a shortening, so perhaps it's subconscious.

sageandroses · 29/03/2020 15:43

In my head mine is my first initial and then surname - but in reality it is a useless scribble Blush

couchlover · 29/03/2020 15:50

Mine is initial then surname but dh is full name. We are early 40's. To be honest mine is more a squiggle now.

happymummy12345 · 29/03/2020 16:14

Meant to say I'm late 20's

ethelredonagoodday · 29/03/2020 16:15

I'm 41 and do first name, middle initial, surname.

daisypond · 29/03/2020 16:18

I don’t have a middle name. I always write D Pond. I’m early 50s.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 29/03/2020 16:20

I'm mid thirties, I write my two initials and then my surname in full. For example, P. E. Teacher. I just think it looks nicer. I've never come across someone who writes out their whole first name for their signature.
