As none of us are going anywhere this summer and certainly not to the beach , I had the idea of creating a big sandpit for my 10 year old so we can pretend we are by the seaside ! Hubby ridiculed the idea and asked me to remember she is 10 not 5! How old is too old to build sandcastles ? 😎

What?! Too old for Sandcastles?! What os this nonsense! Get the sand! Let your child decide what he wants to do with it.

CodenameVillanelle · 29/03/2020 09:52

I doubt she'd play with it for more than 5 minutes!

My 10 year old would love that and my 12 year old would probably play with it too.

Why don’t you grow something nice together in the garden, may be strawberry’s, or tomato’s,

Also don’t give up hope maybe buy the end of July some of the restrictions may be lifted!!

Admit it, the sand was for you not for Dd wasn't it 😁

To be fair to your DH, it does sound like something that would be played with for half an hour and then abandoned.

Unless you can cover it it's likely to end up as a cat toilet.

You’re never too old to build sandcastles, at the seaside. Playing in a sandpit in the garden...too babyish for most 10 year olds. It’s a lot of effort for what is likely to only have a gimmicky appeal for the first day.

I think there might be more age-suited and educational things to do in your garden which are also a lot of fun but would benefit your daughter now and in the future.

I have three. 5, 10 and 12 and all three were still playing with our big sandpit last summer. Once lockdown is over I’ll be re-filling it. They play with cars and small animals in there as well as standard sand toys.

A sandcastle in a sandpit just isn't the same. You need to be able to dig right down, make a moat round it that the sea will fill, and wait for the tide to come in to knock it down.
