So, Saturday night is usually takeaway night but most of our local takeaways are shut and the remaining ones are inundated so who knows how long a delivery will take. I decided to try a fakeaway Nando's. Made a peri peri marinade and had chicken in a pitta with salad and chips. Not too shabby if I'm being honest. Does anyone else have any fakeaway recipes for the inevitable coming weeks?

We love making a curry. A proper curry, from scratch with all the spices. The Hairy Bikers have some fantastic recipes. Their biryani is amazing. Takes ages to cook but worth it. Pinch of nom also have some great recipes for replacement takeaways.

Despite being a decent cook I've never mastered a curry Sad no matter what recipe I follow overnight it morphs into mediocre and doesn't quite cut it. I'm willing to give Hairy Bikers a go through. No guts no glory Grin

You need ‘Made in India’ by Meera Sodha. Haven’t found a dud recipe yet and I’ve tried lots. Tonight we had curry night, dh and dd cooked a lamb curry, I cooked a chicken curry and we made our own chappatis. Bloody lovely!

I cheat but it still tasted amazing.

Buy a simmer and sauce jar from Asda or aldi. I tend to go for a balti or Rogan josh.

Coat the chicken in flour and brown off in a frying pan. Add the spice powder. Fry for a few more minutes and take off the heat. Add to a casserole dish with chopped onion, pepper and tomato (fresh tomatoes). Stir the sauce in and slow cook on 180 for 2 hours.

Serve with fluffy rice, poppadoms and mango chutney. Sometimes I make a simple mint raita too using fresh yoghurt , mint and cucumber.

If you like paneer, Meera S has a recipe for butter paneer that's as good as anything I've ever had in a restaurant and spectacularly easy.

Easy flatbreads out of SR flour and natural yoghurt

Have a look for a book called the takeaway secret. Everything in that from proper curry to big macs and KFC and that are all pretty spot on.

I second Hairy Bikers and Pinch of Nom. But I always buy the pre packed pilau or basmati rice from Aldi
