If your child is an extrovert, how are they coping?

I'm quite an introvert, very happy on my own and need time alone regularly in order to feel "balanced".
My 7 yr old is the opposite - loves people, thrives on interaction and needs to be with people daily. He is struggling with the isolation, he's taken to talking to people walking past our house (shouting from windows) to get his "people fix".
Fortunately he can still go to school twice a week as we both work for NHS otherwise I would seriously worry for his mental health. He's not anxious about the virus it's the people he misses. I'm just wondering how other children are coping?

I have similar ages children. Both extroverted. They are both finding it very hard (as am I). FaceTime has helped a bit - my 7 year old was hugely cheered up after speaking to a friend on it. Is that an option for your DC?

10 year old child that's definitely an extrovert and struggling Shock

Happier today but yesterday was an emotional tearful day followed by many meltdowns and lairy behaviour.

Getting out on a dog walk helps massively and we've just done exactly that in the dark as it was getting abit hyper here 😀

He's bouncing. Really really bouncing. Constantly.
We stayed in today. Never again.
I'll be taking him out tomorrow and I plan to just get him to sprint as much as I can.
We're walking up a bike trail to a big green so he should have enough space to really wear himself out.

The last two days ds has been really moody. He's not spoken to any of his friends despite me repeatedly saying to arrange to video call them, his routine is all out, he's spending more time than usual on the PlayStation, and despite my best efforts he's fed up. We've gone out every day for a walk, him on his bike, but I'm still working full time at home while trying to home school and occupy him and it's hard. Maybe I should get him out in the garden and interacting with walkers as they pass tomorrow 🤷

9yo spend 90mins on a 4-child FaceTime this afternoon which has helped.

He’s spending a lot of time on WhatsApp video to his friends! Which I’m happy about, except he’s always off with my phone. He’s having good chats with a good group of friends.
Can yours do something similar, if his friends call will he answer?

My five year old has taken to throwing stuff over the garden fence when she hears the neighbours out there so she can talk to them. I explained that she couldn’t touch stuff after it had been thrown back until I’d anti-bac’d it, but she’s not bothered about the things - she wants the little chat over the fence (at an appropriate distance). Thankfully the neighbours don’t seem to mind and they’re keen gardeners so always out.

She’s also making little video messages for her friends and we send them to the other parents on the class WhatsApp group. I’m one of nature’s introverts so I try to imagine she’s feeling the way I do when I’m overwhelmed with excessive company and need a bit of solitude.

I have one of each and my eldest the extrovert is really struggling she is like a caged animal it’s a nightmare I am also the same and honestly thought I’d cope with this isolation absolutely fine as I’m usually tough as nails but mentally it is absolutely breaking me

From a burning energy point of view none have down the Joe Wicks workouts every morning. It helps a bit.

The only thing that has really helped with missing their friends is some sort of video chat.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/03/2020 21:23

Struggling. I am an extrovert and am also struggling.

Perhaps I should encourage more video chats, that sounds like a really helpful idea. Thanks
