Ok, I know I'm hoicking my judgy pants here, but would you? Neither one of the couple are working due to situation but are not ill, neither are elderly (they have a teenager), they're reasonably well off. I know they have a cleaner who visits once a week but should they still be having her come round in the current situation? I know I'm sticking my nose in and it's none of my business but surely they are putting her and her family, and themselves, at risk? Maybe she really needs the money but they could have paid her anyway and told her not to come. They are really nice people and I really like them but I'm a bit Shock at this!

I've cancelled mine and are still paying her as I am fortunate that currently as a key working I'm still getting paid. I wouldn't want her coming in my house as whatever precautions were taken I am still putting her at risk.

SybilWrites · 28/03/2020 06:27

It's none of your business. People are just so much more fanatical on here than real life. Pitch forks all the way.

Fwiw I have paid mine, but she isn't coming. But if this continues for a long time, I will review it. I'm working hugely long hours, looking after several children on my own and the house cleaning is just another task that I have to do.

Jeleste · 28/03/2020 06:46

@TKAAHUARTG because i am lazy i guess. We have a big house with 3 floors, 4 bathrooms which all have showers and baths. On top of that we have a granny flat. Cleaner usually comes every 2 weeks to clean the flat our bathrooms and bedroom floor.
There was no contact, she has her own key. Pretty much entered, waved from far and went upstairs, then to the flat. She didnt clean our bathrooms downstairs this time and stayed on different floors.

Poetryinaction · 28/03/2020 06:50

Why anyone at home all day would need a cleaner I don't know. The right thing to do is to pay them if your own income is unaffected.

TKAAHUARTG · 28/03/2020 06:51

Yeah, because it doesn’t live on surfaces. Who cares if your big house is a state? No one is coming. I think you are taking advantage, just pay her and let her stay home and safe.

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2020 06:53

Maybe she's already had it and recovered.

TKAAHUARTG · 28/03/2020 06:55

Her landlord isn’t going to stop charging her rent., no, but her employer should still pay her and not take advantage of her fear that she won’t be able to pay her rent. If no one is there stop her making unnecessary trips. Just do the right thing.

TKAAHUARTG · 28/03/2020 06:56

Oh so we know that we get immunity from covid-19, even though other coronaviruses can affect more than once? Tell the NHS

Saxineno · 28/03/2020 06:57

KatherineJaneway
Maybe she's already had it and recovered

But she could still be carrying the virus on her between homes.

I've paid my cleaner till end of April and asked her not to come. I miss her so much already Grin

OhamIreally · 28/03/2020 06:59

If you're getting paid yourself you should continue to pay. It's the same principle. And no, they should not be coming in.

GlamGiraffe · 28/03/2020 07:02

You could be my neighbour!!a
I have a lady who come to me, my neighbours see her through my front windows hanging put some washing when she's here. They all call her the "cleaner" and are the busiest busy bodies on earth.
In reality have a potentially life threatening condition and a small child. She's here to babysit both of us if my husband has to go to work to collect something vital (currently) but normally three times a week, or now when hes at the shops or collecting my prescriptions or meds.
All is not necessarily what i seems to prying eyes!

eurochick · 28/03/2020 07:03

@Poetryinaction possibly because they are working? Everyone I know who is at home during this when they usually aren't is wfh and extremely busy.

Our cleaner developed a cough so we are currently paying her to stay at home. When she is better and out of isolation I expect she will want to resume work. She was reluctant to accept payment while not working for even a couple of weeks. We need to figure out how we will deal with that. We can easily observe the 2m rule and she isn't in and out of lots of her houses - her main cleaning job was a pub so we might be all she has got now.

TKAAHUARTG · 28/03/2020 07:05

Although this thread has shown some selfish people can’t pay their cleaner or clean their own shite. Even in times like this.

userxx · 28/03/2020 07:16

@TKAAHUARTG Most cleaners are self employed not employed.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 28/03/2020 07:17

We can easily observe the 2m rule

I'm not even a paranoid person about all this (and certainly coming on here frothing at the mouth if a jogger or toddler veers a bit close in a park), but this is mad.
The virus lives on plastic for 3 days. If she has it, you are have a really chance of getting it. If you have it, high chances you give it to her too... And she then spreads it to her family or a delivery driver or supermarket worker, because you couldn't scrub your own loo. Angry

Stuckforthefourthtime · 28/03/2020 07:17

*certainly NOT coming on here frothing at the.mouth, I meant!

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2020 07:24

But she could still be carrying the virus on her between homes.

Yes but not everyone thinks like that and thinks she is now 'safe'.

Bojo1 · 28/03/2020 07:31

She’s going to her place of work. Nothing wrong with that. I’m still at work, working with a hundred people. I’d say she had the better deal

MadamePewter · 28/03/2020 07:31

If anyone is frothing at the mouth I’d definitely stay away from them 😃

TooGood2BeTrue · 28/03/2020 07:33

FGS. This thread makes me wonder whether the people in my neighbourhood are also gossiping about our builder still coming to our house every day ATM. We are in the midst of having our only bathroom redone, and our bath/shower was halfway plumbed in when the lockdown was announced on Monday. We still have no functioning toilet, but there are probably busybodies on our street too who would class a flushing toilet as a non essential luxury...

Hannah021 · 28/03/2020 07:34

Its not about allowed or now
its about cleaners being in many homes some of which might have ill people with CV. The cleaner might not know about it, and she might know and not declare that to the next client.

Remember, corona lingers in the air for 3 hous, even if u keep your distance. So she might pick up something from her clients, and pass it over to the next.
i honestly feel sorry for them, not a good situation to be in

BarbaraofSeville · 28/03/2020 07:41

At least if you don't have a toilet for the builders to use TooGood so that's a common Mumsnet fear you don't have to worry about.

eurochick · 28/03/2020 07:42

@Stuckforthefourthtime I have said she isn't coming at the moment. We will continue to try to pay her not to come but as I said I expect she will want to. She was wearing disposable gloves on her last visit so precautions can be taken.

TooGood2BeTrue · 28/03/2020 07:53

@BarbaraofSeville Thats true 😂!

lightlypoached · 28/03/2020 07:58

We paid our cleaner a months money to stay away and keep safe, and we will review in a month's time. If I'm getting paid then so is she. And I would not expect her to travel on public transport and expose herself to,our family just because we can't be arsed to clean our own loo and drag a hoover round.
