Do you think it's safe to get a takeaway??

I wouldn't normally under these circumstances but it's mine and husband's anniversary. We haven't got anything special to cook so was thinking of ordering a takeaway to cheer the kids up and have a movie night. Do you think it is safe??

Yes, it’s safe. That’s why they are open.
Here.

I would get one but would treat the outside of the takeaway containers and the bag as potentially contaminated. So dish up without touching the food with your hands, then dispose of containers and bag, wipe down surfaces, wash your own hands, good to go.

userxx · 27/03/2020 15:48

I'm having one tomorrow night.

flapjackfairy · 27/03/2020 15:51

Personally I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole at the moment sadly .

forkfun · 27/03/2020 15:53

Just as safe as getting food from any shop.

Babyfg · 27/03/2020 15:53

I'm too afraid to get one. All I keep thinking is what if the cook coughed in it. However the government is saying it's fine

Kinneddar · 27/03/2020 15:53

This must have been asked on here every single day this week 🙄

AChickenCalledDaal · 27/03/2020 15:54

Relatively safe. Like most of life at the moment. Wash your hands before you eat and enjoy every mouthful Smile

Dickorydockwhatthe · 27/03/2020 15:55

That's what I'm worried about if they've breathed or coughed on it. I was going to order a pizza but worried about packaging or them preparing it 😑

I wouldn't because you don't know if they are using new temporary staff who aren't well versed in food hygiene practices.

Rockbird · 27/03/2020 15:56

According to the BBC, Prof Sally Bloomfield, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine says takeaways are fine as long as you decant the food, dispose of the packaging and wash your hands before eating. That's good enough for me.

Kin I'm sure alot of questions has been repeated on mumsnet doesn't mean I've seen it!!

We got Chinese the other night.

Used gloves to get the boxes out of the bag, wiped the outsides with zoflora solution. Binned the bag. Washed hands.

Plate the food up, zap each plate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Wash hands again.

user1493413286 · 27/03/2020 16:04

Yes, just wash your hands after touching the packaging and before eating

VeganCow · 27/03/2020 16:13

I wouldnt. Im already funny about kitchen hygiene in food places when you can't see what theyre doing but now even more so.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/03/2020 16:29

I wouldn’t either.

PinkSpring · 27/03/2020 16:34

I would, they have hygiene ratings for a reason.

However around here most have closed due to lack of custom over the last week or so, I am not happy Angry it was hard enough to just get food anyway so a takeaway was an easy, albeit expensive, option!
