What are you doing about your cars?

Mine hasn't moved for the best part of two weeks. I have no essential reason to go out but I'm thinking about going for a quick drive just to keep the car ticking over. (Can do a loop, up to the motorway and back) I really don't want a flat battery if I do need to go out because I don't have anyone to jump start it!

It hadn’t even occurred to me

But my car was parked up for several weeks last year and it started first time -as I expected it to.

At the moment I’m taking shopping to my Elderly Aunt, so once a week it’s getting a half hour drive. Long May this continue as it’ll only stop if one of us is in hospital or if I’m too unwell to drive.

But if I didn’t need to drive it, I’d expect it to be fine for a few weeks. If I had a car that I was concerned about, I’d look at disconnecting the battery I guess. Though getting the RAC to jump start doesn’t seem like a big deal either if you can wait a while if you stay in your car then no contact.

Park your car facing out if you can!!

@playthestation

I feel embarrassed for you

Many thanks. I'll sleep much better knowing that. Saves me having to do it.

Cheers.

@playthtestation But you were on the right lines - I was being a stroppy arse, so my apologies! Have been for a nice long walk in the sunshine and managed to source some nice wine for this evening, so all is well.

I'm heavily pregnant. I'd quite like to know that the car still works when I go into labour without having to wait for the RAC etc. Thoughts?

You need to put the car in gear and leave the handbrake off. The handbrake can seize if put on and left. If your brakes seize it can cost around £500 to get them sorted. I remember my dad bringing batteries into the house to charge using a machine in the hall.

Entirely reasonable and sensible.

(I was wondering about bath pearls recently too. Great NN! Smile)
