Fresh gnocchi one day past its use by date - would you eat it?

So cross at myself - been cooking really carefully and using everything up.

Do you reckon the gnocchi will be OK to eat or best not to?

it'll be fine

Whiffenpoofs · 27/03/2020 09:09

Absolutely fine to eat.

And you don't need to be cross at yourself. You're doing a good job. Be kinder to yourself. Smile

NotStayingIn · 27/03/2020 09:12

And I’m not just saying that because food is tricky to come by right now. I would happily eat that during normal circumstances too.

SunshineDays2019 · 27/03/2020 09:30

Yes (if I liked it, which I don't) it will be fine

TowerRingInferno · 27/03/2020 09:31

Yes

Letitallbeover · 27/03/2020 09:46

My rule tends to be if it smells okay and it’s not green and furry- it’s ok.

Ninkanink · 27/03/2020 11:20

Yesterday we ate steak that was six days past the date. Absolutely fine.

We’re still using creme fraiche that’s dated 6/3. It’s fine.

Tonight we’re using natural yoghurt that’s been open for about three weeks and is well past the date. We’re making a curry with it.

We ignore use by and expiration dates on everything but chicken and fish/seafood.

And if it helps during this time, eggs are fine for a few weeks past the date (longer if they’ve been refrigerated). Yoghurt and cheese will be fine past the date, especially if they’ve not yet been opened. Milk can be cooked with when it’s on the turn.

Obviously just use the look/sniff/taste test to be on the safe side.

Trust your senses - nose and eyes.
Don't waste food.

There used to be threads on MN about buying lots of food and then throw it away because of some small print and then proudly call this 'decluttering'.

Rewy · 27/03/2020 11:33

Yes use it.

Bluesheep8 · 27/03/2020 11:41

I would use gnocchi far more out of date than that, even in normal circumstances.

FountainGate · 27/03/2020 13:24

Yes, yes I would.

Bobbiepin · 27/03/2020 13:34

Remember that gnocchi is potato. It'll be fine.

plunkplunkfizz · 27/03/2020 13:39

Yes

Affirmative106 · 27/03/2020 13:39

Definitely. It's not meat.

ironicname · 27/03/2020 13:41

Yes, of course.

20viona · 27/03/2020 13:42

Of course

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2020 13:43

Echoing everyone else - it'll be fine.

pippong · 27/03/2020 13:49

Yes, just use it. Unless you want to queue up for 2 hours at sainsburys

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 13:51

I've done it before and it's been fine.
