Would your neighbours report you

chomalungma · 26/03/2020 13:14

Apparently the police have been getting calls saying their neighbour is off for a 2nd run and should be arrested.

Another one stating someone might be off for a drive.

So what would your neighbours do?

Lady downstairs might, but Dm neighbour would! Would people who give continual false statements be prosecuted? To stop people wasting police time?

I seriously feel like reporting mine. On Tuesday they had a family gathering, elderly parents sort of (about 65-70) with their 3 grandkids in the garden and their daughter who is a key worker in a supermarket so must be exposed to some risk. I bloody know her as her son is in my daughter’s class. They need saving from themselves.

user1480880826 · 27/03/2020 05:51

The rules apply to you too @Isadora2007. We’re not all following them so you don’t have to. Grow up.

Failedtothinkofanythingorigina · 27/03/2020 06:08

@Isadora2007 I don't live in the UK so rules are not exactly the same (no exercise exemption here - we cannot leave the house, luckily we have a garden but my dogs are still going mad). I'm also in a different country to my parents and at least 100 miles from close friends. My husband is in self-isolation in the spare room and has been there for over a week. I have been WFH (long hours: I'd be classed a key worker in the UK and it is manically busy) for over two weeks, the (primary aged) kids have been off school for four weeks. We were allowing the kids to play with two other families on the full understanding of everyone that there was a risk we'd pass it around but a week ago I stopped that. Two of the other families have family members going to work and so it's not safe for us to risk infecting them. Even if they weren't we may need medical treatment or to go out for food. I won't risk infecting anyone any more than I can.

I'm not suggesting someone should come visit me! I'm healthy and I still have my job (husband might not much longer) - I can cope and I'm far luckier than some. Why is your daughter different to me?

Failedtothinkofanythingorigina · 27/03/2020 06:10

*Anymore than I have to.

feathermucker · 27/03/2020 06:21

I doubt very much that they would. We're quite a friendly bunch. Generally more likely to help each other than be snidey.

bruce43mydog · 27/03/2020 06:41

Well I've not had police at door so far but if I did I would tell them that unless the government puts us on full lock down then the neighbours will be reporting us going out about 50 times a day.

We are all still working in our house. And when we get home we have 3 dogs to walk

I've noticed some neighbours looking

But oh well that's what the government want us to do keep passing germs on.

drspouse · 27/03/2020 06:48

No, but they might ask us to get them something via the street WhatsApp Grin
(They are all sensible by the way as are we).

NCTDN · 27/03/2020 07:17

It astounds me that, despite all the news, government warnings and general pleas from the nation, some people are STILL flaunting the rules We should all be working together here. @Isadora2007 I'm looking at you.
My neighbours are lovely but in some ways I hope that all neighbours would report someone they knew was taking the p**s so there could be a crack down.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 27/03/2020 07:21

so yes I am bending the rules and no I don’t have any issues with doing so
@Isadora2007
No, you're not bending the rules, you're breaking them.
My neighbours wouldn't report me, There's nothing for them to report.

SarahInAccounts · 27/03/2020 07:30

I think there's a fair number of people who are giving free rein to their previously barely contained inner hall monitor. . .

And a lot of them are on MN. Bosoms hoiked to the skies.

fantasmasgoria1 · 27/03/2020 07:31

A senior policeman I forget which are said they really don't want to be receiving calls reporting others for going out more than once. I have read this a couple of times too. I have not been out all week. Saturday, Sunday and Monday I will be going out. Saturday is shopping day for us and the elderly neighbour. Sunday and Monday will be walks in a local secluded area. I have a serious and complex mental illness and I become very anxious and panicky. If at 8pm my anxiety gets too much might need to go for a walk around the block.

wowfudge · 27/03/2020 07:35

@Isadora2007 I'm interested to know what makes you think you are qualified to carry out your own risk assessment and decide you can do as you wish despite what the government's medical experts have told us? The arrogance of that statement.

Honestly my mum would love nothing more than to spend time with her grandkids, but she's not doing that physically because she's not an idiot.

maralough · 27/03/2020 07:50

No, my neighbours are all nice people. There's perhaps one who would report, but I don't think anyone would give him reason to.

NCTDN · 27/03/2020 07:57

@Isadora2007
And if you’re still unsure or pretending to be confused so that you can justify breaking the rules......
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP US ALL SAFE.

Social distancing in a Nut Shell

⚫️ Essential contact only

⚫️ You can NOT visit other people’s houses.

⚫️ You can NOT meet up with friends for children to have play dates or for you to do exercise.

⚫️ You can NOT allow your children to go out to hang around with friends.

🟢 You can as a house unit go for a walk as long as you do not meet others

🟢 You can go to the super market for essentials, keeping hands clean and distancing from others

🟢 You can go to work if needed staying a safe distance away.

Even if you work in an hospital, an office, as a childcare worker or in supermarket you can not then visit friends and family that person has not been in contact with the people you have and vice versa- therefore you could be carrying the virus with no symptoms and are therefore spreading Covid-19 and risking people’s lives!

NHS, Social Services, Teachers, all emergency services, supermarket staff and all other essential staff are not working and risking their health for you to go and have a glass of wine with your friends or send your children out.

The government are not shutting schools, cafe’s, bar’s, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, gyms and play centres and providing money to subsidies wages and save business which will put the country in debt lightly, they are doing it as stopping contact is essential to save lives.

DONT BE SELFISH! SOCIAL DISTANCE AND SAVE LIVES

Copy & Paste and share...

MondeoFan · 27/03/2020 08:07

@Isadora2007 the actions you take today will dictate how many hospital beds are in use tomorrow. Think of it like that.
YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL

tabulahrasa · 27/03/2020 08:07

Next door might if they notice, they’re a bit odd and don’t like me... spent ages reporting me to the council because my dog was going to the toilet in my garden, and didn’t take kindly to me asking them to turn their music down during their really loud party a few years ago...

I am going out for more than one walk.

I’ve not had any physical interaction with anyone outside my house other than fairly infrequent shops for fresh food for nearly two weeks, because I started when they advised it rather than waiting for it to become an order.

But I’m fostering a dog with bad hips who has to only walk for 10 minutes at a time, so I’m carrying on walking him twice a day...

I don’t see that me walking alone with a dog on a lead and not being near any other people for two walks of 10 minutes is more of a public health risk than someone else doing a full normal length walk just because I opened my door twice instead of once, it’s still only 20 minutes I’m out and about for...

jackparlabane · 27/03/2020 08:18

My neighbours would simply say hello (from over 2m away). I've actually got to know more of them recently over WhatsApp and by sitting on parked cars and chatting to ones cleaning their front area.

Complaints are reserved for the twats who organise raves periodically and still had one last night.

Frownette · 27/03/2020 08:27

I don't get up to much so don't think there'd be anything to say.

I've noticed NDN still has visitors but I've never met her and she must be aware of the risks so I don't report.

ReginaGeorgeous · 27/03/2020 08:32

Nah. I only left my house on Wednesday this week, to get enough groceries for the next few days. I don’t like exercise at the best of times.

WinstonWolf · 27/03/2020 08:40

@YesItsMeIDontCare - definitely a MC tail! What a beautiful cat you have.

I love the personalised harness, would you mind sharing where one might buy such an item?

Hope your neighbours leave you to cat walk in peace.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/03/2020 08:52

@WinstonWolf

Mynwood Cat Jackets. They're made to measure too.

Frownette · 27/03/2020 08:55

Beautiful cat

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/03/2020 08:59

I don't think they would, but who knows in the current climate. I feel a bit paranoid if I even talk to one from several metres away if we both come out at the same time.

bathorshower · 27/03/2020 09:38

How would they know whether or not you're breaking the rules? One reason to go out is to care for someone vulnerable; you might need to do that every day (or even more often). While I get on well with my neighbours, and am not at all concerned they'd report me, they don't know who else I could be responsible for.
