Would you buy a tumble dryer at this point?

Our tumble dryer has been giving out for a while and last night it gave up. DH has done all reasonable repairs and replacements and it's no longer safe to carry on.

I'd normally just go online and order a new one.

So, assuming you would normally use a tumble dryer at this time of year, would you order one now?

I would. They might leave it at the end of the drive, so assume you can get it into the house?

flossyflorenceflounces · 26/03/2020 08:56

No. It's not essential and if you didn't need one a few weeks ago now when the weather was bad then you don't need it now it's sunny.

MayFayner · 26/03/2020 08:56

Yes.

Thatbloodybear · 26/03/2020 08:57

Yes why ever not? Although I'm sure people will be along in hoarders to ask why on earth your tumble drying in this glorious weather

Yes. That's probably my preferred option.

I did need one when the weather was bad.

Yes why ever not?

I guess because it will increase interaction between the people picking and delivering it.

Although I'm sure people will be along in hoarders to ask why on earth your tumble drying in this glorious weather

Fair enough. It's complicated and linked to a daughter with a disability.

This would be my question. Tumble dryers are awful for the environment

Monstercruch · 26/03/2020 09:08

Yes. I couldn’t live without mine. Use it all year round

Puppywithattitude · 26/03/2020 09:11

What if you have no outside space so nowhere to dry?
Just get one.

Thanks. That's why I asked if people would normally use a tumble dryer, what they would do.

Yes I would, but I have a dd with asd who will not wear anything that has been dried outside, or use a towel that has been dried outside, so mine is used all year round. If you need one, then buy one

Duchessofblandings · 26/03/2020 09:13

Do you have a garden or balcony?

ArriettyJones · 26/03/2020 09:13

Is there anywhere open to sell you one?

Poppinjay · 26/03/2020 09:15

Is there anywhere open to sell you one?

Apparently so. I've checked the Curry's website and they've closed their shops but are still delivering.

If it was full summer I’d probably put it off.

But you can’t rely on the weather yet, and if you do not have facilities to dry when it’s raining, then getting one now makes sense.

Orders for non-essential items might come to a halt at any point, and deliveries may well not run to time (or even not happen, depending on driver availability). But at least you would be in the system for when normal service resumed

Poppinjay · 26/03/2020 09:21

Good point. I hadn't really processed that it could get more difficult.

Depends on your circumstances but to help if you decide to do it we had a new radiator / heated towel rail ordered ( before lockdown) as we were refurbishing the bathroom. It arrived yesterday. The driver placed it near the door after checking it was right house as he couldn’t find us yesterday. He signed it off after asking my name. Apologised and checked that it was ok to leave it outside. I told him I was surprised it had come and said we didn’t expect the delivery would go ahead. He said he wished he was home. It must be really quite worrying if you are delivering. So I would only do it if you can’t line dry.

We haven’t got a shower or bath at the moment but we are managing with a small basin.

Soontobe60 · 26/03/2020 09:36

My dd works for AO.com they are still delivering, but the drivers are leaving the goods at the door rather than bringing them into your home as usual.

IceKitten · 26/03/2020 09:40

Yes

Oldraver · 26/03/2020 09:41

I had to order a computer on Monday as DS's died

We were in the garden when it arrived and he left it at the end of the garden and it wasn't signed for.

I would order one, it can be left without you having to meet. They are not heavy and you will get it in easy

Poppinjay · 26/03/2020 09:42

He said he wished he was home. It must be really quite worrying if you are delivering.

That's helpful. Thank you. If people weren't ordering, would these people be at home on 80% or their wage? I don't really understand how it works.
