It hadn't occurred to me up until now but I have an online shop coming tomorrow and read something on Facebook which made me think. Apparently, we are supposed to be quarantining groceries, what have you all been doing?

We haven't been, hadn't even considered it! I've noticed a lot of comments on here today through and they've got me wondering. Do we need to? What are people using??

LovingLola · 25/03/2020 17:56

No.

DonPablo · 25/03/2020 17:57

I have. I don't know if I'm ashamed, or paranoid, or what.

Hotnsoapy water with a splash of brown dettol. My mom always said brown dettol was the answer. I can't ask her, so I imagined what she'd do. She'd have dettoled it.

WhatAboutMeeee · 25/03/2020 17:57

I hadn't been but started yesterday

Dennisreynoldsduster · 25/03/2020 17:59

I have. And any other deliveries. I leave non perishables in the porch or garden, spray with antibac and leave for 24 hours. Might be overkill but I’d rather be cautious than sick especially since the article saying the virus could last on cardboard and plastic for days.
We’ve been ordering a lot of things for house projects so wanted to be sure

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 25/03/2020 17:59

No but I rip of all the plastic wrappings and then wash my hands

CendrillonSings · 25/03/2020 17:59

Just quarantine them. The virus survives on cardboard for about a day, on hard surfaces for up to 3 days. Longer if the environment is cold.

MsChatterbox · 25/03/2020 18:02

Yes, I wiped everything down that would remain in its packaging like milk. Anything that came out of packaging like biscuits I emptied and discarded. Then wiped down surfaces and washed hands. It only dawned on me the week before as I was eating a packet of Crisps whilst emptying the shopping that I probably need to be more careful.

Queenparsnip · 25/03/2020 18:04

No I think I've had c.virus already but who would know as there's been so little testing.

OhMy05 · 25/03/2020 18:06

I’ve been taking the bags straight into the utility room which is accessible through another entrance fortunately. I take off all my outdoor clothes there too and change.

I then use two cloths in each hand sprayed with dettol to gently wipe each package before putting away. Fresh fruit I wash in water, don’t think there’s much can be done with that. Quarantine veg in a bag until use.

Then I wipe down the plastic bags and handles and put them to the side. I clean the floor/worktops that the bags have been sitting on and bin the cloths, (I cut up an old sheet into lots of tiny squares, saved old sheets/duvet covers to use as dust sheets). Then wash hands and wipe down any surfaces I’ve touched since I enter the house. Paranoid much!

Nmagain · 25/03/2020 18:06

absolutely not

nzborn · 25/03/2020 18:07

l tend to leave it alone for a few hours then put away.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/03/2020 18:09

No. I wash my hands after putting groceries away as they get dusty anyway. My immune system has always coped.

Yes there's a chance of the virus spreading via contact with packaging, but it would be bloody unlucky. I'd have been more likely to get it from being in the shop anyway.

Namelesswonder · 25/03/2020 18:32

No. I haven’t got any anti-bac spray as I wasn’t able to buy any so couldn’t even if I wanted to!

isseywith4vampirecats · 25/03/2020 18:33

same as bogrollBOGOFF I haven't even thought about it bring it home from the shop and put it away wash my hands but as I haven't even needed to go to the doctors for the last eight years for anything major im lucky

SirVixofVixHall · 25/03/2020 18:41

Anti bac doesn’t kill viruses.
Warm or hot soapy water is fine, I wash things that are washable, and then rinse and dry. Things that can’t be washed but are not perishable I put on one side for a week or so then put away. Most things fall into these categories. Bread I am taking out of the packet, re bagging in portions, and freezing. Things like frozen Pizza I have wiped the box with an alcohol wipe, but next time I might just remove the box and bin it. Biscuits taking out of the box.
We haven’t shopped for two weeks and I am going to be extra careful with my food delivery this week, as someone else will have handled it.
